Re: Anchor to DMC Floss Conversion . . .

I told you I don't remember well. Usually things do kick in. This time only a few minutes went by and I remembered and tried another conversion method. It is not a chart but you plug in your number and the work is done for you. I only did the first 2 and one came up with two choices. The other had o...

Re: Anchor to DMC Floss Conversion . . .

At times like that I am thankful I have an actual Anchor floss chart. Sometimes there is another floss that is almost identical to the point where it is hard to tell the two apart if you lay strands of the two different numbers side by side. I then go for the other number and use the equivalent in D...

Re: Book Question "Rainbow of Stitches"

Because I never was much of a hoarder and then had many moves thrown in for good measure I really live light. It's not that I may not at one point have owned books but have passed them on when I found my interest waned on subjects. So now I find that the library really suits me for most applications...

Re: Book Question "Rainbow of Stitches"

The local library has none but most libraries are branches of a much larger system so I choose books from the larger system online and they get shipped in from another branch to my local branch for pickup. So from no choice I now can choose from several hundred.

Re: Mini projects

Wandatoo--I can see that with dark brown or black fabric sashing and turned into a little wall hanging. I've saved the pattern as I think that would make a brilliant piece and also be wonderful for a travelling project.

Re: Book Question "Rainbow of Stitches"

Do you use the local library at all? that is how I have found any information I need. Granted I don't have a book to put on my shelf but it has saved me a lot of money I could spend for something I felt was more worthwhile.

Re: Magnetic clips as needle holders

I've been thinking of gluing a magnetic strip on the stretcher bar on my frame to place my needles. Those little magnets look like a lovely idea. Maybe I can incorporate something like that on a clip that will span the wood thickness. I have a needle minder that I love but find it a bother on the fa...

Re: Can anybody help me...

Can you imagine how much I would have stitched in 60 years if that had been my only interest? I've had many ups and downs, spells of no action. In fact, I can relate to quite a few seven year spans when I didn't do a single cross. Then one day something would spark my interest and I would be back fo...

Re: Needlepoint . . .

I had never given a thought to the lead of the pencil wearing off on the yarn while stitching. I have had bad experience with thread being pierced while stitching so therefore I don't use it for griding and one of my birds has a bit of red that won't go away as short of pulling the pattern out I can...

Re: Need a frame for a large project, can anyone help?

I would use a QSnap floor frame and get the tilt legs as well. Is it a hooking rug you are doing? If so I wouldn't attempt it with my wooden cross stitch floor frame because of the weight.

Re: how should i back a bookmark..?

Steam a Seam is a fusible web. There are many different brands but many are re-positionable which means you add heat, it loosens. SaS Heavy is there for life no matter how much you wash and dry it. Brand names of other fusibles: Heat and Bond, Wonder Under are two I can think of right now. It's real...

Re: how should i back a bookmark..?

I backed my most recent bookmark with a piece of fabric fused down with Steam a Seam Heavy, both the exact size of the back without the fringe. This is totally washable and the SaS is not affected by either water or heat. It also keeps the fabric edges from fraying any further than before steamed in...

Your teapot and cup really caught my attention. I take it is a monthly series. Looking forward to seeing them evolve.

Re: Needlepoint . . .

Since discovering griding I would definitely grid with something other than thread. Seeing that needlepoint doesn't get washed I would be tempted to use pencil or very fine pen that would help in the stitching but not be too bold so as to show through if there was any type of void in your thread/yar...

Re: Light vs. Dark . . .

I have no problem with my cream colored Aida and find it no different than the blue hand dyed I have been using. I find the angle at which I keep my frame makes a difference as far as the glare on the chart. I have it attached to the frame with a bull dog clip.

My lamp is similar to Dazoo's and I use the daylight CLF bulbs in the highest wattage I can find.

Re: easiest/most efficient way to stitch

I do back stitching as soon as I can in a section. That way the least desirable is not staring at me in the end. It is no different in any of my other activities. I like the feeling that when I am done there isn't thie statement "except----" which is usually the dreaded part. I use the gri...

Re: New Stash, or Old Stash First?

I know my tastes change dramatically in relatively short periods of time so I know better than to stockpile. As a result there is nothing very old in my stash. About the only constant is the very realistic bird scenes.

Re: easiest/most efficient way to stitch

I must say that marking grids makes it easier for me to stitch my obviously preferred method, one color at a time and in blocks. I need to do far less counting and also far less backtracking. I'm so glad I have learned that method from this forum. I prefer bottom leg, followed by top leg in, in sect...

Re: Lighting

I stitch mostly at night and I try to stitch where I have a daylight bulb shining on it. I had trouble seeing last night and just realized that the lamp head was moved from the regular angle. It will be better tonight.
