Anchor to DMC Floss Conversion . . .

Post by kkwalrus »

Hello,

I have looked at three different conversion charts and cannot seem to come up with a Anchor to DMC conversion for the following colours . . .

022 Darkest Red
019 Dark Red

070 Darkest Pink
069 Dark Pink
068 Medium Pink
048 Lightest Pink

0261 Medium Green
0213 Lightest Green

0856 Dark Brown Green

Just so I know does this likely mean there is not a suitable match or am I possible looking at outdated charts? Any input would be appreciated.

Thank you.

At times like that I am thankful I have an actual Anchor floss chart. Sometimes there is another floss that is almost identical to the point where it is hard to tell the two apart if you lay strands of the two different numbers side by side. I then go for the other number and use the equivalent in DMC. Sometimes there just isn't an exact match so no number is given. It also works the same from DMC to Anchor and that's why sometimes you may have a Anchor number in a DMC list or visa versa. I even wing it when I may not have a particular floss on hand and substitute. I do find I have to write in the number on my chart because I never remember even for a short period of time, let alone long term. I also have found that sometimes colors get retired and a whole new run with more tones/shades very close to the original replaces it. Sorry I can't help you on the specific conversions or close substitutes.

I told you I don't remember well. Usually things do kick in. This time only a few minutes went by and I remembered and tried another conversion method. It is not a chart but you plug in your number and the work is done for you. I only did the first 2 and one came up with two choices. The other had one number given.

Granny: Thank you so much! I found them all except 856 but I can probably fudge that one.

twinkleberry: Hope you find the colours you are after!

Boy, you were quick. 856 is only slightly darker than 855 but with quite a bit more greenish tinge to it. I typed another thought and lost it in cyberspace so here goes again. We sold the Anchor flosses for about 10 years. At the end of that period I purchased the newest actual floss chart because we were retiring. There were a few numbers that we sold in that period that were no longer on the chart and they had added about another 20 numbers in that time.

I have a few anchor to DMC conversion charts.

Anchor 856 = DMC 370 on one chart.

Anchor 856 = DMC 3011 on another chart

and 3 other charts have no mention of the anchor 856

When I am doing a conversion project, i try and use the one chart for the whole conversion because some have differences and not swap between charts if possible.
Current WIP's

* Dimensions Gold "Four Seasons kittens"
* Dimensions Matted Accents "Kitten and Butterfly"

Barb--I agree on using the one chart for all. In fact, I ended up doing the same conversion from two charts and liked one better than the other.

I used this site for conversions, it also lists DMC numbers that have gone.

i am a DMC snob...I found this out reccently LOL.

I would def not change from like DMC pink to Achor pink...as far as using a dmc blue and then a anchor pink i have no idea...it seems like it may skew the shades some...but i don't know...

I have used them together in one picture and there was no difference in texture, no problem at washing - I don't see why not :)

You can mix the threads, although in a perfect world you wouldn't need to, but don't mix colours: either use all DMC 304 OR all Anchor 019 in one design.

022 Darkest Red
019 Dark Red DMC 304 *(slight caution)

070 Darkest Pink
069 Dark Pink DMC 3803 should be exact
068 Medium Pink DMC 3687 *(slight caution)
048 Lightest Pink DMC 818 should be exact

0261 Medium Green DMC 368 *(slight caution)
0213 Lightest Green

0856 Dark Brown Green

None of the others have very good shade comparisons.
