Stitching from Stash 2014 challenge

Post by msufly »

I stumbled across the Stitching from Stash 2014 challenge while I searched for stitching blogs to read and it sounds like fun - the main premise is to keep to a $25 (US currency) budget each month but there are other rules for folks involved in classes, workshops, or monthly SALs. There will be monthly drawings and a final drawing at the end of 2014 for a $100 stitchy gift card. Has anyone here signed up? At last count, there were 66 people participating. I don't spend more than $25/month on stash anyways (unless buying hand-dyed fabric) so I've signed up and started a blog to post my stitching progress.

Here's the page for the challenge:http://epicstitchinpg.blogspot.co.uk/p/blog-page.html
ETA: You can sign up until 2Jan (UK time).

I think this will work

http://epicstitching.blogspot.ca" target="_blank

I sent her an email saying I would like to join but also added some questions so depending on her answers we will see if I am accepted.

Sounds like some good times though.

Hmm, I don't know. I could stitch from stash, but then again, I haven't even been stitching a year yet, so I don't really want to stop buying stash either!

It will be fun to see everyone else participating though. :)

I went ahead an signed up! Not that I have that MUCH stash.. but I have nearly a full set of DMC already, and plenty of fabric and a bajillion patterns. I should be able to stick to this without too much trouble.

I guess I am going to have to set up a blog now!

Got the answer to my questions and yes I am goiing to join this. I have a room full of stash to choose from and I now have a goal more then just myself to encourage me not to buy but just use what is already here.

I've been umming and ahhing over signing up for a week or so, but think I have decided against it (not through lack of stash :D ) - pretty sure as I don't have a blog I would forget to email in my spendings every month! I already set myself a monthly stash budget and am pretty strict about new starts being a fanatical finisher over a serial starter.

I'm looking forward to seeing how everyone else copes with the challenge and cheering on from the sidelines!

cool! i think i'll sign up. i can't imagine spending more than 25 dollars a month on stitching right now, since i am on such a tight budget and i have enough to last me a year. and if i go over, i do and then i'm out. but it sounds fun! thanks for the link!

Woohoo! I'm so glad more people are joining. She's got 84 folks at last count and she also said there will be more prizes than just the monthly draws and final gift. The additional prizes will be things like "finished BAP", "spent the least", etc so it'll be fun to watch it all. More chances to win stuff!

And I'm like some of you guys, I don't have that much stash but I want to encourage myself to use what I have instead of going nuts buying more.

This sounds like an interesting challenge, thanks for posting about it. It's quite timely too since it's possible that when the furnace repair man comes later today he'll tell me we need a new furnace (ours is ancient and only works when it feels like it). :( I'll definitely join in spirit even if I don't get around to e-mailing her to make it official.

This is a great idea. I just started a tumblr and I do have a fair amount of stash... :)

I should probably buy those silks for my tirasmu project now since those are $65 by themselves!!

Edit: I joined  and I bought my silks today, $58, not $65, but close!! (It would have been more if I bought the beads too, but I'm going to hold off on those for now)

I just signed up for this. 2013 has been the year of aquisiton and I have more than enough to keep me busy. I am starting grad school this January so my financial situation has taken a sharp downward direction. Since I always worked very long hours and had a commute I think I will have more stitching time. Please let it be so. This challenge is just perfect timing for me.

Oh this will be so fun to have so many helping stay strong and use stash not new acquisitions. I am looking forward to our little SA......Stashers Anonymous group both here and on her Blog. When I sent her my agreement email I outlined what my plan was for this year. It seems large but I know I can make it all work.

I am seriously thinking about this also. Haven't gone into a lot of detail but I am going to have some major work done on the house this year, as a result of squirrels having eaten through the wood into my chimney. I'll post an OT thread later, but I'm thinking that trying to stick to this is what I need to do. Have a few more days to think about it. then again, it is one of the only things I splurge on and I have a bit of a rebellious streak that could make me go completely in the other direction. I will promise though to not try to encourage any of you who have signed up to not stick to the program, but will be as supportive as possible to help you meet your goals.

So from what I understand, WIP amd UFO are fine and any stash purchased before 2014 does not apply to the budget. I have asked her since I dont do a lot of blogging if I can send her a link to the youtube vids where I do my monthly updates. Ihave my blog and will post there if needed. Rose, I was unaware you had a blog. I am excited to do this as well. I cant believe I am excited about a budget. Lol I think DH is more excited. While looking for the fabric for my AAN he said whats the hurry I sais I have to buy it before 2014...he laughed and said you know the whole purpose it to save the money....notmjust buy all the stash just before the new year...LoL
