I'll write a bit more about the process in a FoF, but not until after I've given the bear back to Andreea - but here's a sneak peek for the Forum of the end result

When my mom passed (11 years after my dad), my niece took a bunch of their clothing and surprised my sisters and me with quilts made from the clothes, with a photo of them printed on fabric as the center.

Finished the experimental robin . Originally I did his beady eye in black only but that didn't look defined enough, so I added the outline in very light beige.
He might be experimental but he is absolutely perfect! I love him!

He certainly is very majestic and colourful. Sadly I find that the white outline draws the focus to the eye very strongly and it is to the loss of the remaining beautiful stitching and threads.

It's always a challenge to strike the right balance between the various parts; it would have been nice to keep the outline even finer, but this was down to one strand already - and I'm glad I didn't go with my original idea of bright white, which would have been very stark indeed! If I stitched it again I might go for an off-white sewing thread, just to keep the line thinner. He would make quite a nice card, although if i ever decide to use him for our Christmas cards I would definitely go back to outline only
Hmm. Finished the robin so I could start on a rainbow sheep, and then ended up digging out poor old Hengest the Medieval Unicorn - rather nice to be working on him again, and he is getting so close to being finished! I managed a lock or two of his mane while watching the Dutch speedskating (during the long distances only of course - you have to pay constant attention when it's the 500 metres!)
So happy to see Hengest again! I think he is too. He is so lovable. Reminds me a a cozy stuffed animal to curl up with on a rainy day. (No idea where that thought came from, but he does looks soft and cuddly - even if he is a unicorn)

Well said Carole! I do like Hengest too. Each time he makes an appearance here I get a warm fuzzy feeling!

I completely agree.
And the robin is perfect!
