Italian needle lace

Post by lavenderbee »

Has anyone tried making this? I saw it on a programme about Italy where several ladies sat in a room making this lace, each doing a specific stitch. The narrator said it can take up to 2 years to make a table cloth.

Seen a video of it on YouTube & it fascinated me, The lace is made with knots apparently. Would not mind giving it a try sometime.

Wow.. that looks amazing. Yet another craft I simply must learn. I learned to knit lace several years ago and since tthen have been obsessed with it. This looks like a very portable type of project too! Must investigate more! Though I seriously doubt I'm going to try to make a tablecloth. Maybe a bit of lace to hem a handkerchief or something!

Another thing to fail to learn, and wish I had the time for.

I too wish I had the time to do this. It is gorgeous. Any idea how long it actually took to make that lace. I know it was a lot longer than the 7 minute YouTube video!

Well Brekkana you got the knots, you should have jiggled them round to form a pattern   Good for you for trying.

N&F I wondered how long it took the lady to make what was shown on Youtube. Several places to check it out on search page but I never got round to looking at many of them as our cat decided to take a look too so had to come off. I will look into it more later on though as it is intriguing. If you make a hankie I'll add a trim for you, kind aren't I?

I've spent way too mch time today on youtube sucked into lace making videos. This is not good since I've found atleast a half dozen more techniques I want to try out!

I too found a LOT of lace making websites last night ... before I decided to try puncetto (? spelling) knotting.

Haha I was sure trying :) the few I managed together were so tiny because of the thinness of the thread I couldn't find the loops to build rows on. Am determined to try again though ... once I have thicker thread ... it seems similar enough to chain stitching so I should be able to figure it out ...
