Glendon Place Amazing Desserts SAL - Status Update!

Post by perftangel »

Hi everyone! I had mentioned this in my WIP post, but I think it needs it's own thread.

Myself and another blogger were talking about doing the same Glendon Place pattern and I figured, if she and I were interested in doing it we could make it into a year long SAL with prizes!

The rules are pretty simple:
Rules of the SAL:
1. Sign up by January 15, 2015.
2. Start and finish a Glendon Place Dessert Series Mandala in 2015
3. Post 5 times during 2015:
- January 15th
- April 15th
- July 15th
- October 15th
- December 15th
Note: You do not have to post on the actual day, just during the week of the 15th.

I'm turning this thread into the official "Cross Stitch Forum" signup! If you are interested please let me know below and which pattern you're going to do! You will follow the same rules are on my blog, but instead of posting on your blog, you post here in this thread. :)

Here's the page on my blog for more details ~ http://www.xstitchhaven.com/p/glendon-place-sal.html

EDIT: Participants (if you don't see your name, let me know and if I got the pattern incorrect)

Perftangel - Plum Pudding
fccs - Pumpkin Swirl
kimkat_tkl - Plum Pudding
rcperryls - Plum Pudding
cristaltipps - Plum Pudding

Oh my, this sounds perfect for me.

This is my Glendon Place stash at the moment:
Rainbow Parfait

Red Velvet Cake

Plum Pudding

Baked Alaska

Grasshopper (and although I haven't seen it IRL yet I'm thinking the October Monthly Melody that I ordered from Colour Cascades might work for this chart).

The first one I want to do is Plum Pudding, so I'll be in with Plum Pudding.

Oh wow Tracy!!!! You are clearly ready for this to start!!! :) I have Tiramisu which I don't see in your stash, that I started a couple months ago, but for this challenge I think I'm going with the Plum Pudding too! I just love purples & circles! A close runner up is Pumpkin Swirl though. :D

Pumpkin Swirl...and I still have my Bingo winnings to use for the chart. Yay...so far no money spent. I'm hoping I have some fabby here so all I'll have to purchase is the fibers. We'll see....

Well darn, would love to get in on this but I don't have any of the patterns, special floss, beads, or fabric lol. I guess I will have to sit this one out and just drool over all the lovelies. I hope someone does the grasshopper pie one. I really love that one and the rainbow parfait one. *sigh* Someday my life will not suck. It has to change since I keep saying that, right?

Does anyone know if there's any kind of DMC equivalent to the Dinky Dyes floss? I know the finished project won't be nearly as pretty, but unfortunately my budget can't allow $50 in specialty threads at the moment...

I haven't been able to find a conversation chart for Dinky Dyes to DMC, and my Pumpkin Swirl chart doesn't give an equivalent. Honestly, though, I don't see why you can't do a visual conversion by matching the suggested Dinky Dyes color a DMC color that you like. When I was looking at my Pumpkin Swirl chart, there's a note about changing to a color scheme of the stitcher's choice, or even stitching it monochromatic. I say go for it. I always think it's a shame when a chart's suggested fibers can price one out of stitching it.

Right I think I wish to take part in this one as i have most of what i need for my one and the rest of the missing threads promised as a christmas gift, mine is also Plum pudding (the only one i have) so i shall join with that.

I read the thread and believe we just have to make a small start for our first months post only i have a deadline of the end of January for a 40th birthday and have to admit to having procrastinated about it for so long that i now feel up against it timewise lol.

As far as the special threads go yes they are costly which is why i have added one and a pack of beads when i have made other orders to spread the cost but now i am wishing i had gone for ordinary threads as i am a bit worried that the special dyed threads might run or go dull when it is washed once complete, it is no good saying do not wash as i suffer from terrible skin condition on my hands and have to use so many creams and lotions that my work always gets grubby.

I have also picked a normal fabric as some of the speciality ones are not colourfast.

Looking forward to being part of a SAL again :)

I am going to sign up for Rainbow Parfait.

Very important - there is a 25% off sale this weekend at glendonplace.net - so anyone who is considering joining the SAL or who just needs supplies in general should check it out.

Thank you, Jen for pointing out the sale. I was thinking about joining in and doing one since it would be something quick (relatively speaking) for me to finish. But alas, they don't have charts in PDF. :( Oh well. I'll be watching your SAL and admiring the progress.

Thank you Jen! I love Plum Pudding and had planned to join the SAL. (Don't really need another one but ....) Anyway, I went ahead and ordered chart, fabric and threads. Not only at a great price but also so convenient!. This means I have to finish my Twisted Band Sampler. Get at least one WIP off my list.

In case anyone else was looking for one, I did manage to find a Dinky Dyes to DMC conversion chart at Stitcher's Village:

http://stitchersvillage.com/images/conv ... to-DMC.pdf" target="_blank

Unfortunately there's a few required threads that aren't on there, but I'm sure with a trip to the store to look at the DMC flosses, I'll be able to find something to work out.

Yeah, they don't do that unfortunately, I usually scan my into the computer and send it to my iPad... I don't know if that helps...? :)

I'm excited guys!!! Hopefully my stuff will be here on Christmas (wink wink hubby!). :) I am starting to be annoyed with myself and making it be a new start, because I would love to get my current one finished too... lol!

Thank you for the info, but I have a scanner and some expensive software, so I *could* make my own PDF......but then I can't bring myself to destroy the hardcopy chart (which I'd have to in order to have only one issue of the chart) and I just can't bring myself to do that. Not having hardcopy charts anymore is the whole point.

I think I might make Pumpkin Swirl the project I start on New Year's Day. I've got all but one package of beads (unless I decide to change fabric...trying to be strong there and go with what I've got).

Lovely designs, it'll be fun to see which one everyone chooses, and the colours (so many scrumptious threads, so little time...)

Of course!!! :D

I'm still debating on what fabric to buy for Plum Pudding. I've narrowed it down to ... 28 count. Yeah, so choices: Cashel Linen or Lugana in White, Spite by Picture this Plus, Candy Tuffed by Crafty Kitten, or a non-hand dyed solid Lavender color.

I feel like I talked to someone in the past about their fabric choice, and they thought that it would have looked better on white than whatever hand dyed they used. I'm concerned about the threads looking washed out, like they do in every single picture online I've seen of the pattern finished. I want them to look bright! My Tiramisu is on a Crafty Kitten Jazlyn.... I just care that they match size wise. :)

Thoughts everyone?!
