A Lowery, you'll love it Nicola.

I had some wonderful stitchy gifts for Christmas and my Birthday this year - sorry it's pic heavy
Image
This is a fascinating read, the author is either scottish or lives in scotland so naturally has lots of tales from Scotland and the facts and tales of stitchcraft around the world has me completely drawn in, it's a pity there aren't any photos of the works she describes but then I suppose she would come up against the thorny old issue of copyright and museums.

And this beautiful kit
Image
Merejka Poppies and Oats, I can't wait to get started on this beauty.

For my Birthday my DS gave me this
Image
This is a wonderful book, the images in it are amazing and the detail is superb, the Copes are photographed over a two page spread and on the next page as a diagram and description of what was stitched, there are also some photographs of items that didn't make it into the exhibition for one reason or another. It is in collabration with the Victoria and Albert Museum. It also has six essays about the Opus Angelicanum by the various authors which make a fascinating read too.

and this cutie
Image
Again I can't wait to get started on this one, he will sit happily on our kitchen wall.

Not stitchy related but just because I love it so much
Image
I have been known to panic when we run low on teabags - now I will never have to

What a glorious group of gifts. You must have been an exceptionally good gal to merit all of those. I have English Medieval Embroidery, and it is an exceptional source work. I might have to look for the Clare Hunter book. Poppies and Oats will be glorious! (And don't all embroiderers run on caffeine? Tea is a necessity!)

The Tea Bag box is hilarious (and I must get one)

That V&A OA book may well make it to my birthday list (it's my 50th this year so people may be more willing to push the boat out :-) )

There's a whole podcast dedicated to the Threads of Life book on Fiber Talk if you're interested, it's a converation with the author.

What a wonderful bunch of gifts!!! I am looking forward to watching you stitch those lovely kits and think I'll start dropping hints about historical Embroidery books when my birthday approaches (many months away).

Maureen you have a wonderful son and his choice of gifts is absolutely spot on. Merejka's design is fabulous and will keep you busy many a long winter's dat or night but well worth it under your busy needle. I did NOT SEE that oh so gorgeous Bothy Threads one, it is pricelss. My Mother kept Angora rabbits for some years to seel their fur. Apparently she used to spend hours combing or brushing the and keeping the fine hair to sell. This was long before I came on the scene of course. :)

How lovely to have those2 fabulous books which you can dip into over the years. All in all really fabulous gifts for a wonderful Mum. :tizzy: :tizzy: :tizzy:

Super Gifts...all of them! You Lucky Girl!! :whoop: :whoop: :whoop:

Particularly like the Emergency tea Bag Tin!! The tea bags I favour aren't sold here in France so I panic when I get to my last box of 240, especially if we haven't a visit planned!

BTW I have that Rabbit and he's going up on my kitchen wall too! I shall call him Rodney! :D

Wendy & Sally, I am a very lucky and blessed woman to have such a DS.

He decided he was going to name the Wrendale Rabbit, I was going to go for plain old Peter, but DS said he was: 1, Captain Lettuce Muncher, or 2, Munchy McMunch Face then he settled on Captain Munchy McMunch Face :-?

He does like unusual names, anyone remember Wrendale's Amongst the Foxgloves became Foxy McFox Face @rotfl:

Debby, I wonder which Wrendale is making it's way to you, could it be a certain Rabbit hopping over the Atlantic :D

Mabel, thank you ever so much for that link, I have bookmarked it to listen to later, it will be a very interesting listen.

Yes Serinde, I think all stitchers must run on caffeine of one description or another. :tea: :coffee:

You may find, WW, that the water might have an influence on your choice of teabags, depending where you end up... :P (We up here in the North have the best water imaginable. Perhaps the Best Water in the World. No exaggeration.)

What thoughtful gifts from your DS! I just love your new rabbit munching away. Your Merejka's kit is beautiful. Both books will be very in depth and interesting. You won't have time to do anything else, Maureen :D As for the tin, it is a brilliant find  All well deserved.
