Hello from Michigan!
Hello everyone! I'm Marta, originally from California, but currently in school in Michigan, where the cold winter weather at least means I get more stitching done...
I did a little kit when I was 8, but I started stitching properly when I was 11, with kits, then I got the book "Famous Paintings in Cross Stitch" by Jan Eaton and did van Gogh's Irises (unfortunately I don't have a picture with me). That made me fall in love with cross stitching paintings, so I searched online and found Scarlet Quince, and stitched Girl with a Pearl Earring (sorry for the quality, that's my grandma in the reflection taking a picture with her iPad):
And now I'm stitching Klimt's Lady with Fan, also from SQ, which my sister requested (I just told her to pick something colorful, because Pearl Earring's black background was not fun):
I've always been a 1 WIP stitcher, but, after discovering the online world of stitching a month ago, I've been tempted by so many patterns that I think I'll be starting a Clouds Factory and a Mirabilia pattern as soon as my supplies get here!

Hello from Colorado and welcome to the forum. Beautiful work on the pieces you shared with us (and thanks for sharing!). I was a one-at-a-time stitcher until I joined the forum. Now I realize I won't hurt my WIP's feelings if I pick up another...and another...and another...and......

Hello Marta and welcome to the forum from South Carolina! What a beautiful piece you stitched! I don't blame your Grandma for wanting a picture of it. I would do the same exact thing!! The reflection in the photo is a permanent reminder of her love and pride in you.
I was also a one project at a time stitcher until I joined the forum and learned I wasn't breaking any law if I stitched more. Have gone a bit overboard perhaps, but I love my stitching even more. Looking forward to seeing more of your progress on your current piece which looks beautiful and your new starts! Stitching definitely helps ease any cabin fever you may get from a cold and snowy winter.

Hi Marta and Welcome from me too in steamy and wet Briasbane so glad you have joined us. It sounds like you have started gathering some lovely future stitching projects or are you going to start a rotation?

Re: Hello from Michigan!
Thanks for the welcome everyone, and for the assurance that it's ok to work on more than one project at a time. Since my current project is quite large, and will probably take several years, I'm thinking of starting a rotation so I can try other things in the meantime. On the other hand, since it is going to take so long, I don't want to start too many side projects and never finish the big one...
Re: Hello from Michigan!
Many many years ago I tried the 1 at a time but my moods change - sometimes I'm looking for a challenge, sometimes I just want the pleasure, sometimes some colours attract and - well - sometimes I'm so captivated by a project I've just discovered I just have to start it.

Welcome from the West of Scotland! (Even if I did think you'd kidnapped Mabel, whose avatar is The Girl with the Pearl Earring! ) Oh, we'll soon get you into bad stash habits, you just wait.

Welcome.
I am a one at a time person too.
You have obviously taken on some pretty spectacular projects and are willing to stretch yourself. I think you may well learn a lot here, or failing that, end up teaching the rest of us!
Regards,
Richard

Thanks for the welcomes everyone!
I was actually quite excited to see her avatar. And looking through her old posts makes me want to try hardanger (which I'd never heard of before). So many new things to try...Serinde wrote:Welcome from the West of Scotland! Welcome, from another Midwesterner!
I just got started on my first Scarlet Quince piece last night, after spending several hours prepping the fabric by gridding it, another first for me. I loooooove your finished SQ piece--it's just gorgeous!
As you can tell by my list of SQ projects in the queue below, I have a pile of TBS (that's To Be Stitched) projects, alongside my TBR bookshelf (that's To Be Read) and my TBW dvds (To Be Watched). I have a tendency to pile things up, I think...

Re: Hello from Michigan!
Good luck on your SQ, Kathy! I haven't gridded any of my projects yet, but I just ordered some 1-ply thread to try it out. I also am giving parking a try for the first time and I realize it'll make parking easier if I have everything gridded.Kathy_A wrote:Welcome, from another Midwesterner!
