HAED Mini Moonlighting - update April 30, ‘19

Post by KarinvdB »

Because I was having trouble working on small stitches with the QS Autumn Owl I figured I should go to lower count for a while.

Image
I bought Mini Moonlighting a few weeks ago, I'd been doubting between the mini and the regular size, so doing the Mini on a lower count (=bigger end result) was pretty perfect. I love this chart because it reminds me of my two boys.

Image

Got fabric samples for 18 count Aida and evenweave (Davosa) and 35ct Modena to work over 2.
I did some testing, the samples were small so I couldn't test under tension but it still gave me a pretty good idea.

Image
The Davosa made quite messy crosses compared to the Modena. Even though working over two meant smaller holes (thus more tendency for me to hunch) I really liked the Modana a lot more. The aida might have made for neater crosses but I absolutely hated working on it, it was too stiff and rough to get the thread through, I didn't even want to finish the test. So I went with the Modena.

Image
Got the floss all organized and ready.

Image
And here's the first block. I'm taking this one slow, no setting goals or thinking about how long it's going to take, just enjoying the process, and we'll see how it goes.

Great start! and such pretty kitties :D

I try to go slow and just enjoy the stitching most of the time, but sometimes I am so anxious to see it 'come to life' that I find myself stitching faster and becoming more and more anxious  At that point I talk to myself and remind me that it's supposed to be relaxing, not stressful. LOL

You sound like you've got a good plan and very organized. Looking forward to update pics.

I have so many gift project going right now that have deadlines, it would be nice to be working on something that could be more leisurely.

Love the design, reminds me of an orange kitty I used to have. :)

I can see why it reminds you of your boys. It looks like the artist had them in mind.

Well, it seems that cross stitching really isn't working for me right now  Every time I picked it up I could feel the tension in my shoulder so for the moment I've put it aside. This is as far as I've gotten.

Image

I've picked up a different embroidery craft, I'll post about that in the right place. I'll try to keep up with the board in the hope that the stitchy bug will come back when the time is right.

:applesauce: Beautiful update! I hope that your shoulder gets better soon. :x: I imagine your stitchy bug will be back when that happens. Probably doesn't want to hurt you.

I love this chart as well. I have been looking at the HAEDs since I joined this board and was really attracted to this design. I love cats, I have 5 and they are all wonderful. I may stitch it too because it is available in mini, I don't think I could face a maxi HAED and I will have to stitch it on 18ct aida as my eyes are not quite what they used to be :)
