Lauren Bacall aged 89 from a massive stroke.I saw her live onstage in London way back in 1974.Such a talented lady.

:( It made me so sad when I heard this. I think she was one of the classiest ladies and will miss her. I think if they run a marathon of her movies I will be up all night watching them.

You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and... blow.

She said those words in her very first film role, and they remained one of those memorable movie moments that have been quoted many times since.

I'd like to think she's having a wonderful reunion with Bogie now.

RIP. Lauren Bacall. You were one of a kind.

While I loved her earlier screen roles, I didn't rate her on the stage. We saw her at Chichester in 1995 in 'The Visit' in which she starred.: in many ways she was tailor made for the role of an steely,embittered, vastly wealthy international VIP who returns to her impoverished home town offering a vast sum of money in return for the body of the man who had seduced her when she was 17, but we both felt that her performance lacked energy, that she underplayed her role, very much the screen star rather than a stage actress.
