New Bingo: Evolutionary Wonders - We have a WINNER!
This newest bingo's subject will be all about evolutionary wonders. Not just 'weird animals', but all sorts of wonders. Coevolution, evolutionary arms races, evolution disrupted or left behind... I guarantee that you will learn some interesting facts and trivia, as well as a thing or two that might be too weird to believe!
I'm a student of biology, and finishing up a transferable degree to university. I believe strongly that evolution got us where we are today. However, I know that not everyone holds the same belief. I'm doing this subject for bingo because it fascinates me, and I want to share some really interesting information.
((I was thinking of doing Farscape as a subject, but figured it was time for a little break from fantasy!))
So, here is the list. Please choose 10 of the subjects and PM me your choices. I will be doing as kell did, choosing 2 a day (and 3 on a couple of bonus days). Each day's choices will have info about the drawn subjects. Signup lasts until July 24, drawing begins July 25.
1. The Cheetah and the Gazelle
2. Birds of Paradise
3. Aye Aye
4. Walking Stick
5. Orchids
6. Peppered Moth

Just three more days for signing up! Crossing my fingers in hopes of picking up a few more players. I posted in the General forum, too, to try and get a few more.

new avatar? I love it. It is so cute.
So now we know who controls the remote! (That is a remote isn't it? Sometimes the details are hard to see. I need to get my eyes checked probably and my glasses changed)

Re: New Bingo: Evolutionary Wonders -- Signup Until July 24!
You are correct, that's a remote. And thanks for noticing... lol! I'd have had one sooner but I couldn't for the life of me remember how to reduce the pixel size of an image (the requirements on this site are smaller than most). The other day I just decided to sit down and figure it out. Took me about 10 seconds, what a doofous!
That's PussPuss, from a short-lived animated show called Kid Notorious that aired on Comedy Central about 7 years ago (?). PussPuss was the star (in my opinion), and even though the show focused on the hijinks of Robert Evans (a Hollywood producer who has a bit of a colourful history), the cat and her war with the butler really made the show.

Re: New Bingo: Evolutionary Wonders -- Signup Until July 24!
Sorry this is later than I anticipated. I haven't been sleeping well, and last night was really bad because of thunderstorms that just wouldn't quit.
Here are the first picks!
9. Passionflower
25. Owls
There are many passionflower, or passion vine, species, and several species of butterflies that love to lay their eggs on or near these plants. Some species of passionflower have developed a tactic through evolution that 'fakes out' female butterflies. If a female butterfly finds a passion vine that already has eggs on its stems or leaves, it will move on. The caterpillars are voracious eaters, and if she lays her eggs on a plant that already has eggs, it's likely the other eggs will hatch first and not enough food will be left for her eggs. So, what some passionflower species have developed are faux egg spots on their leaves. Some have just coloured spots, while others have developed coloured bumps to mimic butterfly eggs even better. It's a great tactic, as the caterpillars often completely defoliate plants they hatch upon!
Owls are an evolutionary marvel! Like other birds of prey, they are feathered hunting machines, but have evolved even further with eyes that can detect movement near-complete darkness, wings that make almost no sound, and hearing that not only detects the tiniest sound, but that can also direct the owl to their prey precisely, even under deep snow. Their eyes are forward-facing, unlike any other birds, to give them added depth perception. Because of the size of their eyes and how they face, their necks can turn almost 360 degrees. The feathers on their wings are very soft compared to other birds' wings, and have upward-facing soft barbs that deaden sound when the feathers move during flight. Most interestingly, their ears are not symmetrical! One is higher and more toward the front of the head than the other. Along with their extreme sensitivity to sound, this asymmetrical alignment contributes to their ability to pinpoint the location of prey even under deep snow.

Good luck everyone!

None for me. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.
That's pretty cool about the passion flower though. I've heard of animals having adaptations to fool predators like that, but never plants.
