This is my first post on what looks to be a great forum.
I am looking for a height chart to stitch for my first nephew as a Christening present. My husband and I have been asked to be his godparents and so I want to give his something really special from his Aunty Sal!
Also, he is coming over from Australia to be Christened and so it will be a light and easy gift for them to return home with.
I have seen a few kits available but nothing that really takes my fancy so far. I am not bothered whether it is a kit or simply a chart.
I hope someone can help as I must start stitching soon if it is to be finished in time for the bid day.
And if you are real adventureous you could make up one that you designed yourself with a bunch of different baby motifs. That way it would be a one of a kind.
By the way welcome to the forum and yes it is a very fun place to come and get ideas. Please post often.
If you are looking for some one to help change you, look in the mirror
Welcome to the forum, this is a great place to visit. Post some of you work in out gallery, we love to see what everyone is stitching. Good luck on your shart, that is a great thing to do for a christening. I will keep an eye open for you.
Actually Rose, I was thinking about a custom designed chart but not sure whether I can make it look 'professional' enough - although it would be far more personal wouldn't it?
My ideas so far: Australian and UK flags, koala, kangaroo, Hervey (their dog), helicopter and plane (my brother is a pilot), birth and christening date.
I think your ideas are good and individual. You might also think about a unifying item to act as the 'ruler'. Years ago, Mary Hickmott did a super one that used a sunflower (it's in Issue 29 of New Stitches, which is still available to buy: http://www.newstitches.com/magazine/bac ... 1to30.html Perhaps for Australia a eucalyptus tree stem (think of all that silvery grey! ) would be appropriate, especially with your koala perched in the branches.
Thinking about the silvery grey, don't forget there are so many wonderful space-dyed threads which will help make fast work of whatever 'ruler' you decide upon (if you use one at all of course.)
Welcome to the forum Salsal, its a lovely friendly place to be!
The Sunflower chart of Mary Hickmott is a lovely one, I think the idea of having Australian animals is lovley.
Last Month The Wof Cross stitching did a dinosaur height chart, which you could also use as a guide to do your own chart. Just a thourght!
I still haven't decided if I have the skills needed to design my own.
I have sent for a jungle themed chart so will have a look at that. I also like the sound of the dinosaur version - very boyish! There are a couple of that magazine on ebay at the moment so I will get hold of a copy asap to have a look at.
I am conscious of the amount of time and effort that will go in to stitching this and therefore I want to be sure that I get the right one.
You never said how old your nephew is. You might have more time to stitch than you think... especially if you have a tiny infant that can't stand by himself yet. See what I mean? Then the design just has to be light in order to post it.
