The wards have all been scrubbed and disinfected so that we can start the year without any left over germs, frogs, worries, distractions and anything else that is baggage from 2014.

I have a sore eye :tantrum: . Got a little grit in there, managed to get it out but I think I scratched my eye. All tearing up. Annoying because i keep wanting to rub it. First Casualty of the New year....and it had to be me.

I've been hiding out here for the last several days.. it's been a sad scene around here.. I'm at my friend's place for the holidays and all of us are sick. Me with a bad cold is actually the healthiest of the lot - one just had surgery, and the other all sorts of emergency dental work. And we've all so generously shared this cold with each other. The amount of theraflu and kleenex we've gone through in the past week is frightening! But we're all on the mend at last.. I can actually BREATHE today!!

I know this week was meant to be all about kicking back and relaxing.. but good grief, the enforced rest because anything else caused coughing fits was a bit much. I know several other people who've had this bug around here - I hope nobody else on the board got hit by it, it was a real stinker!

 and hopes that you are all getting better! I know so many people who were ill over the holidays. This is the best place for comfort and rest and TLC and a hot toddy or two (or more) until you feel better.

Hope everyone is feeling better soon!

I have an annoying pain in my shoulder, it started about 3 weeks ago now. I put it down to the way I had slept but adding on to that I hurt it at the gym. Now its affecting my comfort for stitching and that just not on!!

I've had a pretty dire toothache since last Monday. I've been to the dentist twice, am on antibiotics at the moment (which are making me feel meh) and am having an extraction tomorrow morning. It's a back tooth so a big job apparently. I don't think I've ever had an extraction before so can't say I'm looking forward to it.

Hope everyone else in here feels better soon :)

I had 2 extractions last year! Easier than a filling I thought! You won't feel a thing after the injection into your gum. Can't say the taste of blood was enjoyable though. When it clots over its very weird feeling! You'll be amazed at how quick your gum heals over too! I certainly was!
Good luck :D

Get your days fix of tea/ coffee in before you go. I'm sure it was advised not to have hot drinks for the rest of the day

No tea???? How will I survive without my hourly mug of red bush tea?

I'm less worried about tomorrow now though, after reading about your experiences. Thanks

I had a tooth pulled a few years ago...it was really not a big deal at all. Well, except when the oral surgeon's assistant was ready to numb my mouth...she was going to numb the wrong side. I had to tell her the bad tooth was on the other side. :-)

Glad to help, I wish someone told me not to worry so much! At least I knew for the second time!

Having had lousy teeth since I was a child, I've had way too many extractions (starting when I got braces at the age of 11 or 12) and though I HATE going to the dentist, I have survived through it all. And so much has changed with modern dentistry that it will be over before you realize it. The numbing works well and you many not even feel the pressure of it being extracted. And they will give you lots of instruction as to what you can and can't do immediately after. The next day the only thing that will feel weird is when your tongue rolls over that area that now has no tooth. Which you probably aren't supposed to do, but it is hard not to. You'll do great. And as soon as I "sign" this post, it will be as if you are giving yourself assurances, which is the best way to feel when you go in.

I would be finished with my pumpkins but I got sick on my way home from the day out with Jas and have been spending most of today either asleep or hanging over the toilet. :silenced: :heythere:

Poor you. Luckily you have private en-suite accommodation here. Entirely self cleaning, too.

Hope you feel better soon Rose and it's just a 24 hour thing :)

I'm just back from the dentist where I had FOUR injections. I hate that bit. Fine after that though. I didn't know the tooth was out until he showed it to me. My mouth tastes of disinfectant and blood now though. Not allowed to rinse or spit and if I try and drink water it goes all down my chin

Glad it's over.

 for both Rose and Carole and wishing you each a speedy recovery.

Rose, hopefully you only have a 24 hour bug or you ate something that wasn't good.

Carole, once the numbness wears off you should be able to drink without dribbling. Did they suggest rinsing with salt water once you are able to rinse? And get rest also.

I have a full sheet of instructions which says "Do not exercise". I clarified this with the lovely dental nurse and she confirmed that it means NO housework
I'm to rinse from tomorrow with hot salt water.

The good news is that I only had to wait three hours before having a cuppa. It was just to make sure I didn't burn myself as I wouldn't have been able to feel the heat. I only dribbled a bit

I'm starving now though so I've decided to treat myself and have made a rice pudding. It should be ready soon. Yum.
