As if the cussing isn't enough, when I went to leave on Monday, he burst out into tears. Never have I ever seen him cry so that took me aback. I felt completely awful for having to leave.

That must have been SO difficult for you Kerri, but in another way, maybe it shows just HOW aware he's becoming and maybe that's a good sign?
Really hope that you're going to see continued steady progress from Chad!

Take care Kerri!!

Been thinking about you and Chad, so I went hunting for this thread to see how you both are doing - such good news about the court, and about him cussing out the male nurses! :D
Must have been painful to leave him when he cried as you left, but it's all progress, isn't it?
Any more news since then?

Okay wow, has it really been 4 months since I last updated everyone! Well a lot of stuff has happened since then. Some of you that follow me on facebook already know what I am talking about. Well since February, Chad made some huge huge improvements. He started talking alot..my most favorite two memories were back near the end of March, I walked in one night and he was smiling and I said "so you are happy to see me" and clear as day he said "I am so happy to see you". And the other one was a few days later, we were listening to songs on the radio and he was singing along to every song..even if he couldn't get the words out he was still mouthing all the words. And then he started using his right arm. For nearly a year he didn't use his right arm at all and then he started playing catch with it and throwing it. And then, he got sick again. He developed really severe aspiration pneumonia right at the beginning of april. He had to be put on a ventilator and started having seizures and basically suffered an enormous set back. He literally went back to doing nothing again except nodding his head yes to everything. The doctors again told us that he would never get better. Then, his family decided to start looking at moving him back to New York..I really didn't think it would happen because he was on medicaid and medicaid does not pay to transfer you out of state. Well to my utter shock, not only did they find a place for him that is actually a brain injury rehab place, the hospital offered to pay for his transport...and just like, he was moved in the middle of May. I was pretty devastated and still am...but he's starting to make improvements again and this place actually works with him. He's not left alone tied to a bed all day. They actually get him dressed and he goes to therapies all week long..there has even been talks that he may walk again. He's got his own wheelchair finally which the hospital never gave him. So yes it sucks big time that he is away but so glad he is getting some rehab finally! He spent just over a year in that hospital. But I miss him..and this last month and a half has been weird..I literally don't know what to do with myself half the time. Sorry it took me forever to update you all

 It's so very good to hear from you again. So sorry that Chad has been moved so very far away from you, but it DOES sound like he is finally getting some much needed help and is making fantastic progress   I know you must miss him a lot and hope that you can somehow manage to go visit him in the very near future. Thank you so much for the update on Chad and how wonderful that he is finally getting the special help that he needs. It is really hard on you though and for that I am so sorry for you. Of course you won't know what to do with yourself and it will take time, will power and patience to get back into your own routines.

Sending   :cake: :coffee: to you with prayers. I hope you can get back into stitching too = it is a huge help

I had just joined right after your last post before today so I have been reading through this and really admire your strength and devotion. I am so glad to read that your husband is doing better. You have had so much to deal with this year besides his accident and recovery. Things will get better. I truly believe that. I am glad you have come back here to update everyone. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
And I am glad to meet you now.

Thanks for the update -- it is good to hear that there has been such progress, even with the setback in between, and that he is now in a place where they actually work with him! But it must be very difficult for you this new situation, and I wish you all the strength and peace you need to handle it.

I have been following your updates on FB, and I am so happy for his improvement. Can you perhaps find a foundation or an organisation that would support you to go and see him often? I am sure that would do a lot to help him getting even better.

Thinking of you both a lot.

I'm happy to hear about the improvements that he's made and that he is in a facility that specializes in his condition. I know it won't be easy being apart, but he's where he needs to be right now. The important thing for you is to take care of yourself. Caretakers--whether the one they take care of is at home or in a facility/hospital--need to learn to take time for themselves. If they don't, they can't give the support and care the other person needs. (I'm trying to convince my mom of this right now.) Maybe you could write letters, send cards, etc.

I'm so happy to hear Chad is getting better care, that's wonderful. It must be so hard to be away from him, but at least you know he's getting good care.

I am sorry to hear that Chad is back in NY and away from you but I am so very glad that he is getting the proper medical aid. I don't understand how a doctor can just say well tough buns your as good as you will get. That is not what they are there for they are suppose to be there as support not pessimist. I hope that you can find a way to be together again soon. Best wishes and more prayers.

Think of you when Chad is so far away. But on the good positive side the places the specialize in certain injuries have alot more training and know what works to get him back to full health. Please keep strong and let us know how he's getting on and how you are coping to x x x x
