I'm getting over the achiness but am now completely bunged up with a cold, and we've got a car club New Year's Day run & lunch today. Lots of tissues, and sit a little away from everyone else I think... and a bed at St Cross Stitchers when we get back!

A bed will be ready for you with a hot water bottle and a pot of soothing tea (or whatever takes your fancy). Have a lovely day out, though— if your weather is anything like it is here! :sun: :sun:

Get well wishes to all the inpatients and wishes that we have minimal occupants here and maximum at the Stash & Grab this year!

I guess I have to finally be an inpatient. I'm not sure what I did to my knee, but I worked on New Year's Eve and at the end of my shift, it was hurting something terrible. Each day afterwards it has been hurting worse than the last. I can hardly stand up and at the end of a 12 hour day, I'm practically in tears. I keep trying to ice it down, elevate my leg, and take motrin - nothing seems to help. I'm still in the 90-day period before I get the opportunity for health insurance so doctors/hospitals are not really an option. So I will take a bed here and I'm bringing in Darth Kitty and some stitching to keep me company.

I am so sorry that you have to wait to see the doctor. Try Aleve if the Motrin doesn't work. I have issues with my knees and my doctor wrote an order for physical therapy. My issue is more to do with age, I'm afraid, but I do know that Aleve is an anti inflammatory and works differently than ibuprofen (Motrin). I switched over when my daughter who had hip replacement surgery years ago suggested that I switch and I found that it relieved the pain better. Both aren't great for your stomach and you should make sure you take them with food. In the meantime you and kitty just rest and ring the bell for anything you need.

Sorry to hear about the knee -- that's a real, well, pain! But all the staff at St CS is here to help you. My DH has issues with knees, and he occasionally needs to ice it and then heat it (hot water bottle or similar) in rotation. This is a trick he learned from a sports physio, so might help? I'm sure Mr Google (who does have very limited privileges in this unit) can contact Dr Tinycat to get the details.

I'm sorry to hear about your knee - as Carole says, Aleve may work; I find it very effective on the rare occasions that I use it.

So sorry to hear about your knee! An ice pack on your knee might help with the inflamation.
Meanwhile, I brought you some chocolate and a cupcake.

Oh dear, sorry to read about your knee.

The beds here are super comfy and the suggestions already given sound helpful.

I have put an order in with the Elves for your favourite meal to be delivered at the next meal-time.

I have also replaced the Poinsettia I left after my stay last year with a nice large display of flowers to cheer you up.

Oh and there is a selection of cat toys in the cupboard by the window for Darth Kitty to play with. :kitty: when you feel up to stitching.

No way!
If I could choose or decide, I'd bring you some cooked potatoes with béchamel sauce to eat. It's my favorite food and I cook it pretty often these days.

Oww, oww.
It was a lovely spring morning this morning. On my way into work I took my wife's spare moped and enjoyed the ride. Along one little single track lane I had to ride with one hand shielding my face from the low sun, gorgeous. At the end of the straight, the was a beautiful shaded 90° bend with trees on one side and an unfenced field on the other. The bend looked damp, just like the rest of my route. Because of how sharp the bend was, I slowed to 10 mph. Next thing I knew, the bike was sliding out from under me. I tried to jump off into the verge, and partially succeeded, landing with my torso on the verge and my left leg slightly under the bike as it slid to a halt. When I tried to stand, the frost in the little hollow made standing quite difficult. It was the only frosty bit of my route.
Anyway, was a bit shaken up at the time, and only one bruise is currently visible, but all the bumped muscles have seized up a little since, and I feel a bit hard done by at the moment.

Should be completely fine in a couple of days. The bike has ground away a bit of the bodywork, but otherwise it is unharmed.

Feel more peeved with myself than anything else, I was enjoying the morning too much and not paying the road enough attention.

Regards

Richard.

Here's a good place for the best R & R. Sounds like you were enjoying yourself too much but he picture you paint pre the "incident" would be one that lots of us would do. Glad that your only hurt is a bruise and sore muscles. :bandaid: :bandaid: :wine: Should help you heal. I was waiting for you to tell us something much worse at the end of the post.

Ouch Richard - yes, muscles do that to you, you think they're fine immediately after the fall and then they tense up on you and protest that you've given them a shock and by golly they're going to let you know it! (Still nursing a groin muscle more than two weeks after slipping on an icy patch.)
Have a comfy seat/bed (whichever works best) and some stitching time to recover.

Ouch! oh dear Richard I am glad you weren't more seriously injured.

There are plenty of comfy beds/chairs in here, and lots of your favourite treats to help you recover from the shock.

Might I suggest Arnica Gel for the bruises? and for you too Mabel.

I hope you feel better soon.

Oh my gosh. I’m glad you’re okay, Richard. Take it easy - of course, you’ll probably have no choice because the body has a way of forcing us to do what it wants.

Thanks everyone for your sympathy. I do ache, and I'm sure I used to bounce better years ago.

Mabel's slip on the ice sounds a great deal worse to me. Hope there's no long term damage.

Richard

So glad that you are OK, Richard. I brought you some grapes and hot cross buns to help your recovery, as you might be still a bit achy tomorrow.

OUCH. That sounds not nice at all Richard but good to know that no bones got broken or worse. Take care now.
