Last year was a doozy - Update w/pics 3/21/16 pg 6

Post by geekishly »

I'm sorry I've not been around here in quite awhile. I do think of all of you fairly frequently.

Life has been crazy the last half of this year. In August I had a gallbladder attack, then surgery to remove it in September. I've been trying out a new medication the last several months and it caused all sorts of problems including migraines nearly every day in October and November. To top it off, I've been dealing with a ton of stress and anxiety and I'm on another appeals cycle for disability. My mom, step-dad and half-sister keep talking about kicking me out come spring, which will be long before I will likely be approved for disability as I only filed for the appeal in October and it'll be 8-12 months before I get a court date, another couple months until that court date and then another 30-90 days to get the final decision if the judge doesn't decide that day in court.

On the bright side I'm luckily leaving on Tuesday to go visit family in Missouri for a few weeks, but I'm super worried I won't be able to live here for very long after I get back. I'm also worried that I might come back to find out that I have only a week or two to get out. I really don't know what life will have in store for me when I return to Michigan near the end of January. I can deal with being separated from my belongings in order to get out from the really awful situation I'm in living here with them. In an attempt to at least get my belongings including all my stash and WIPs somewhere safe, I'm doing a fundraiser to get the money to put my things into a storage unit. I feel like if I can at least know I won't lose everything by escaping from here, it'll make things easier to get away.

I spend a lot of time by myself in my room while they cheerfully talk and eat right outside my door in the kitchen. The other day my BFF since we were 16 came by to get some cookies my mom made and truffles I made. I was unable to really join in the conversation because my step-dad wouldn't let me past him where he was seated at the table to go talk to her and her boyfriend. So I just peeked around the fridge and listened until he scooted back and made it impossible for me to even do that. I was too frozen to speak up and say excuse me because I was worried he would go off on a tantrum over it, so I just skulked back to my room and waited for my mom and BFF to finish talking so she could come around to the front of the house to talk with me for a couple minutes.

I hope everyone has been well and I hope you all have a great holiday season. I'm hoping the time away from this awful environment will make it easier to get back into the swing of things and to be more active here again. I miss all of you so much.

It is good to hear from you Brandi. Describing the year you have had as a "doozy" seems a bit like an understatement to me, but it sounds like you will be getting some relief in January with a trip away from the chaos. Will continue to keep :x: and to  that your appeal comes through so you can get back on your own. Thanks for checking in and wishing and hoping that 2015 is a better year for you.

Very good to hear from you and I had hopes you were in a better situation, just without internet access. Maybe the New Year will bring some relief and at least you'll have a few weeks away where you won't be a prisoner in your own home.

It's very good to hear from you Brandi, like the others I was hoping you were in a better situation, I hope that that better situation can come to exist very soon for you. It seems disability is as hard to get in the US as it in her in the UK. It's a terrible stress on top of a stressful situation.

Try and keep in touch, we worry!!

Thanks everyone. Life continues being crazy. Visiting my family in Missouri went great, but right before I returned to Michigan I was informed that I absolutely have to move out on April 1st whether or not I have anywhere to go. My dad and stepmom have offered to help me with partial rent somewhere, but unless I can find a trustworthy roommate in Washtenaw County for the amount they are willing to help me, I'll be out on the street. At least my things are safe in a storage unit. Moving to Missouri is just out of the question until after I get approved on disability.

Hope things work out for you, sooner rather than later and that your disability appeal frees you to move where you will be happy and feel secure again. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Agreed. The last year has, to quote my secondary students, "sucked butt." Here's to new beginnings and, if not possible, less than painful outcomes.

Update 5/8/15

Post by geekishly »

Hello. Sorry I haven't been around since I briefly popped in back in February. Life's been crazy. I was kicked out of my mom's house on April 1st, and I spent most of the month on my BFF's futon in her living room. On the 27th, I got a bed at the homeless shelter, so that's where I'm staying now. All my cross-stitching and supplies are in storage, so I haven't been able to do any in awhile. I miss it something fierce, but there's really no space for me to store it, let alone time/space do it at the homeless shelter since I'm only there from 5pm-7:30am. I should be hearing back on my SSD/SSI appeal court date in the next 1-5 months. Hopefully at the earlier end of that than the latter end.
