I just asked the question in the tips section incase someone has an answer, but isn't looking at this thread. I have never washed a piece as I didn't know that I should till I joined the forum. I want to wash the ones that I will frame and I will frame this one. I just don't want to do all the work and then run water over it and all the colors run. I never even thought about it till I hear her say keep rinsing till the water runs clear. That sounds like crazy tie issues, then I thought about how the floss might loose the coloring.
Another random question. When you stitch with variegated threads do you do one stitch at a time or stitch and come back? I have heard it both ways. I think for my first time I will do one stitch at a time.
Have I mentioned that I can not wait?!?!?!?!? I am getting everything done so I can just sit and stitch, however with my luck something will come up tomorrow.
You can always try to soak the floss in cool water with a bit of vinegar to set the dye. Personally, I've only used DMC or kit thread and haven't had a problem with color bleeding, but I've heard hand dyed floss might run. I've also heard someone say they wash their finished piece by soaking in water with a dash of vinegar to avoid bleeding.
A lot of stitchers do one at a time cross stitches for variegated threads. I think you should do a test run to see what you like best, though.

As for the variegated threads question, it depends on how variegated it is, for me anyway. If it's super variegated then one X at a time, otherwise I just stitch as normal. It's really a preference thing.
I've started, too...if printing out the chart counts. I have a little project I'm trying to finish up, plus the first part of the Joan Elliott SAL...then I can start this one and work on the most recent part for the AAN SAL. I'm still trying to resist the urge to buy pretty fabby for this...along with the overdyed fibers. I want to do this one completely from stash...wish me luck that my willpower holds.

I started last night and got the little pumpkin done. Today I started stitching and I couldn't stop...This is suppose to be my travel piece that I do when I am not at home or when I don't want to get out my big project, that has to be done by Christmas, but I could not put this down. I love the look of the variegated thread, however they are not friendly, so tomorrow I will bust out the thread heaven.
This is where I am as of 10 tonight...sooooo cute!!!

I really wanted to post it for you to see, as you know I was just like you, I really wanted to stitch it on different fabric, but I am really happy with how it is looking on this one. Since it is not as big as I thought it would be, I am glad that I didn't purchase new fabric. Stitch from your stash, stick with your budget, you will feel so much better about the product. PLUS, when I went to my needle shop yesterday (they are a needle point shop, so they only sell thread), I was able to get some glow in the dark thread for the moon and I didn't feel bad about it because I didn't blow my money on fabric. Always a silver lining.
I'm still stitching along. Went to my husband's cousins' graduation party today and brought it along. they are boring so it's nice to have something to do.
Oh, I can't wait to start mine!!! It's on my table, screaming at me, but I have to finish part one of the Joan Elliott SAL first. I will have that done tonight (fingers crossed) so hopefully I can start this one tomorrow.

Here is what I did this weekend. My plan was to get the first half finished for the weekend. Now back to my large project till the weekend
I will say the glow in the dark thread was hard to work with. I have never worked with anything except for DMC. I am using Rainbow Gallery Silk Lame Braio Glow in the Dark White. There are 8 strands in each cut (2 glitter thin clear stands, 3 glow in the dark stands and 3 white strands). I have spent some time in my dark bathroom sorting. Then I stitched the clouds (1 white and 1 glow in the dark strand), went into the bathroom and realized that I need to rail road both parts of the x because when it glows it looks funny when I didn't do it, so off to frog and restitch. I am thinking about doing the moon with a glitter strand, one white and one glow in the dark.
I also like my fabric, but when I look at the cool ones on the facebook stitching page, I still wish I got something different. Stitchers we are funny bunch

I'm home from work for the day and after I get a few things done around the house, I plan on starting it. I'm so excited to get going after seeing the starts on this one.

Well, I like your fabric! I think it highlights the stitching more than a fancy piece of fabric would.
