Can I boast a bit?

Post by agi »

Just after reading Corey's wood-turning post, I realised I haven't told you lately about how very proud I am of my daughter.

After high school she decided not to go on studying, although she was one of the best students in the school, really talented and learns very easily. First she travelled with her boyfriend (a very dubious figure :x ), basically disappeared from my sight for more than a year. Oh, it was so terrible - not because of me, but my ex-husband.
Then she came back and went to a vocational school learning wood carving, while working as a waitress and other odd jobs. One winter she was standing on the street all day inviting tourists into a restaurant.  But at least I coud see her. And she started teaching English to private students.
I think I told you last summer that finally she applied, and was accepted at a university - the best one in Hungary, for learning ethnography, and for the program that is state subsidized, so no tuition fees.

Now she has finished her first term. She works three nights a week and weekends at a hostel, has private students in the afternoons, and goes to university - so she is very busy and tired. But she got 5-s (the best marks) in all her classes and exams!!!!   She has also found an area that she finds interesting, so she wants to specialize in cultural anthropology, and she is very excited about it.

She had some problems with me being ill, she explained to me that she would need me to be the strong mother she always had, and even argued with me for not being strong. We talked a lot, and now she understands, and helps me a lot, calls, visits me, we do things together (mostly cook and bake - she wants to learn  ) so I am really, really happy about her.

This is her making meat-balls before Christmas :)

You have every right to be proud of her. She's obviously matured into a vibrant young woman, and it's even better that she is pursuing learning in a field she is really fascinated by. Fantastic! :applesauce: to the both of you.

It's brilliant she's settled and doing well at something she enjoys and even better you get lots of mother/daughter times together now.

Agi that is wonderful!!!! I am so happy that you have the opportunity to have a relationship with your daughter once again. Sometimes it takes a bit of adversity to help figure out what it is that you really want to do, she seems to have found her niche. :D

You are quite right to be proud of her Agi, she sounds like a very grounded, intelligent woman. She looks very relaxed doing her cooking and it is good to know that you too are now getting on so well :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce:
