Sarah's HAED: Bubble Telescope

Post by Sarah Gixxer »

I'm so excited! I've finally got my much longed for HAED! Simon and I were up at midnight on Christmas Eve watching a movie and decided to open one present each before we went to bed - so of course I opened this - and then decided to stay up till 1am because I couldn't wait to do some of it!
Here's what it will look like......
Image

It will measure 28 x 21.5 inches when done.

Here are most of the threads - half a dozen are missing because some of the same colours are in my predator and Chinese dragon project bags......
Image

Here's my first 100 stitches done last night, just 2 shades of blue. 100 done, 376,325 to go!
Image

And this morning I got up at my usual time of 6-ish and while OH snored for another 90 minutes, I did another 500 stitches - still only 2 shades of blue......
Image

I've got used to the microscopic stitches on this quite quickly and because I'm doing tent stitch, it's growing quickly although it doesn't look like it! That stitched area measures 1.2 x 0.8 inches!

Oh, a very good start, Sarah! And isn't is a wonderful thing to be able to start Christmas Day with some stitching?
Good luck with this huge project - but with your speed I don't worry about you

How wonderful to be able to start straight away, just like that. Using tent stitch really makes it grow quickly, too. Is the coverage good?

This is really going to be a fast HAED. You have made a super start. When you stitch do you use the 2 hand method or the 1 hand????????

Well, I'm upto 2000 stitches done now! I haven't done a photo yet as there's nothing interesting to look at - still only 2 shades of blue and most of the page is like that.

Simon got some motorbike DVDs for Christmas and wanted to watch them yesterday so I had plenty of time to stitch!

Serinde, the tent stitch is giving me great coverage. I'm doing 2 over 1 and it's easily as good as 2 over 1 proper cross stitch on 16 count.

Becca, the fabric is 25 count white Lugana evenweave. It's very heavy and tough and the threads of the fabric don't budge when you pull your thread through like some evenweaves/linens do.

Rose, I'm using the one hand stitching method on this, but I'm not using a sewing action as first, the stitches are too small really for that and also I prefer not to do it on evenweave as I don't get such even tension.

I'm enjoying it anyway, apart from the endless blue! Over the next couple of 10 x 10 blocks, I get to introduce a third colour though......another blue.

I'm upto 3200 stitches now and two more shades of blue, TB - both of them light turquoise. Here's the next pic. This is the full width of the first page now, I just have to carry on working downwards now.
