My hoopoo
Thanks to Mabel, I've been able to experiment with some Vintage Blue linen!
I've had this Hoopoo Chart for some while. It was created for me by Mary Hickmott in the Gallery magazine.(no longer in existence, sadly). She used to have a 'Chart Challenge' and I asked her for this chart. It appeared in Issue 36, I made it for my Dad at that time, but when Mabel sent me some linen to play with I had to re-stitch this!
These 'exotic' birds spend their summers in France and their winters in Spain. I love them! They nest in the woods behind us and raise the crests on their heads when alarmed!

He looks wonderful, I love birds! And the colour of the linen sets it off really well, not sure what country they come from but it's like the blue sky of the err... Australialian? European? countryside!

Re: My hoopoo
He stands out ell against the blue, doesn't he?
Louise, when I first heard the name and saw a picture of the bird, I was convinced it couldn't possibly be Europea ! I would have guessed Australia too, as it somehow reminds me of kookaburras (not sure why)

What a lovely little bird. SO pretty. I do love birds. You're very lucky to be able to see these gorgeous little ones right near where you live.

Re: My hoopoo
We have hoopoos around us. I love to see them flying into the orange groves even if they look strange when they are flying, somehow they look like they are struggling to stay in the air and look quite ungainly and a bit comical. Did not realise that they wintered here and summered in France so thanks for that info.
What a wonderful chart, great to have something done personally for you.

That is great. He looks so proud of himself and how great that it was done to your request. I have never even heard of this bird.
If you are looking for some one to help change you, look in the mirror

Its lovely and looks great on the blue I'd never heard of these before either- now I want to see one!(in real life)
And how fab that you have a chart designed just for you!! The chart challenges in most of the uk mags are tiny basic charts imo, No where near as nice as this one!
