My new WIP - DMC Wishing Star - 50% COMPLETE :D

Post by StitchingMel »

This arrived this morning - threads were all pre-sorted so just had to start straightaway.

Image

Progress today:

Image

Picture quality isn't so good - awful webcam - will get one in the natural daylight tomorrow. The project uses DMC Light threads (that's one of them in the peachy colour) and beads (which are new to me in cross stitch). I'm not sure if anyone else has stitched anything similar but I've used all the peachy Light thread and I'm 2 stitches short (so if anybody has any E967 hanging around please shout :D ). Other than that I'm LOVING it! I usually stitch all one colour at a time, however, the pattern is conveniently split into quarters and that's how I've decided to stitch it this time so it will come alive in four pieces - it's also keeping the back really neat and tidy - one thing I'm very naughty with usually  .

Only one very slight "problem" - in the series they also do these (it's the first and third ones that compliment the one I'm doing which is the second one down - probably a better picture than the one I've posted).

Good start!

Unusual to run out of thread, though - I always have loads left over from my kits.

I'm really confused about the running out of thread thing. I've done kits before and always had plenty left over. I'm just wondering if it's been miscalculated because I've been ultra neat and not "dragged" any over the back of the work, I've worked with it from the bottom left, up and over the ball and back up the part of the arm, there's just two stitches on the face that I don't have any thread for. I think I'm going to wait and see how the rest pans out and if I run out of thread on any others, I'll contact DMC and see what they say. I've got some more of the "Lights" in and it's looking really REALLY good already - I think the Unicorn and Wizard will soon be purchased to compliment it

TB - I can't put it down honestly - this is one of my most favourite projects for a long time. The "lights" threads (although a real pain to work with and VERY unforgiving if they get tangled) really bring this to life and look amazing - I'm just not sure a photograph will capture them as nicely.

It my youngest lad's birthday tomorrow so we have to go out for the day visiting friends and family then home to bake cakes, Friday is (obviously) Halloween and Saturday we are going to a big local bonfire/fireworks display and I'm really dreading having to leave it

I ran out of thread once on a dimension kit and I just went to their website, got their phone number and called them. They mailed me out some extra thread free of charge! I guess it does happen once in awhile. Anyways, looks like you've made a good start. This is a really lovely kit and will look so great once done! Keep up the good work! :D

This will be fun to watch...and I feel sorry for you using Light Effects - I just find them so hard to use even though I love how they look!

This looks wonderful. I like the pattern and also love the fact you can't put it down. :D

I have had kits that go both ways. Lots of extra thread and some that run out before you have finished. If you contact the company they will send out extra thead they always do.

Rose, that's what I'm hoping for. The "light" threads are used around the orb/ball and over the face, bodice and skirt (to give a sense of reflection/"glow") and on the shooting star, the majority of which are in the quarter which I am presently stitching and, if necessary, I will contact DMC to get any bits that I run out of. Can't believe I'm still stitching at this time of night, I'm usually tucked up in bed by now. Really, REALLY must go and get settled now though as I know Ethan will be up at the crack of dawn to open cards and pressies :D :D :D

Will post (hopefully) better pictures tomorrow.

Updated pic:

I've sort of lost interest an incy wincy bit as when we went up to Windermere, there was a fantastic little cross-stitch shop, which Nathan managed to keep me out of for MOST of the weekend, however, I did find a gorgeous Miffy Afghan which just threw itself off the shelf at me so I've got that on the go now (it's going to be my daughter's keepsake) and I will post an SAL for it once I've finished this post :D :D

PS. I got a new camera for Xmas but was allowed to have it early - hence the brill piccies :D :D

There is nothing wrong with having a project on the rest and working a while on another one. But don't forget to come back to this later - it is too good to be left an UFO!

I think once you've had a rest and come back to this you'll get back into it. It's such a lovely project and the light effects do give the sense of 'glow' don't they.
