I am having second thoughts.benceagi wrote:I would definitely use the deep rose colour for whipstitching, with a biscornu you do want to emphasize the shape. I have also used just one little bead in the middle, it looked great.
As I remember, with whipstitch you can mostly see the backstitch lines, and the whipping stitch kind of disappears between, or almost. So I am not so sure about using colour - try it out on a small piece of scrap fabric first.

Re: Mabel's first biscornu
Finished !
Sorry if I go a bit mad on the pictures, but I'm rather proud of it
Agi, you were right about the whipstitching not showing up so bright because the backstitch is black -- fortunately, I rather like the effect! It shows up the "zigzag" line, but it doesn't distract from the cross stitching.
The pictures show, first the two squares and the colour I chose for the whipstitch (DMC 815), then the biscornu completed but without the beads to make the dimple, then complete with dimple:

Re: Mabel's first biscornu
It's going to be used (very carefully ) as a needle cushion, to park my needle in when cutting a new thread or something like that.
Or perhaps it'll just go on my desk and look pretty

Re: Mabel's first biscornu
By the way, I didn't have fiberfill or whatever the stuffing stuff is called, so i used wadding cut into little bits and fluffed up a bit -- worked a treat!
Dazbo, did you find that doing your very first biscornu on black fabric is not to be recommended ?
Finishing the last bit off was quite fiddly, but on the whole it was easier than I'd expected -- if you haven't tried one yet, I can certainly recommend it as they're fun and decorative.

Re: Mabel's first biscornu
Mabel that is wonderful!
Don't think I can stand the thought of you stabbing it, albeit very carefully.
A desk ornament sounds the way to go.
Great job.

BEAUTIFUL!!!
Re: Mabel's first biscornu
Mabel I don't know how I managed to miss this whole thread
It's been lovely browsing through it this morning and seeing your biscornu from start to finish. What a great piece of work, with some beautiful colours. You must be really pleased with it. Think I'll have to add a biscornu to my wish list now

Not sure how I missed the final finish on this but you have done a beautiful job. I like the way the edging is in contrast but that it peeks out at you to say here I am.
