Such a beautiful representation of the fabric folds in the skirt -- well done you for finishing that part!

And of course you must not flounder -- you must koi carp!

haha, good pun Mabel! Haven't done much on it today, except scroll the frame up a bit, and some of the gold on the left hand border - nothing worth taking a photo of yet.
When (or rather if) the weather brightens up and dries up some, i'll take a photo of em outside in daylight, cos artificial light doesn't show up the mottling of the fabric very good; they look better 'in the flesh' as it were. Those yellow patches on this one are actually a lot brighter than they look on these photos.

I've been pondering on Fire & Ice, which i got for my birthday. What does everyone think of these..

Your not going to do it on the black. It really looks good on the dark.

i love working with black material, but i was thinking of doing it on the darkest of this mottled stuff just to see if it works. I'll probably end up doing it on black anyways (this is the sort of pic i end up doing 4 times, all a bit different  )

I've just ordered Lilac Grove 32c lugana & Golden Turret 28c linen for autumn and chrismas, fingers crossed they have them in stock this time.

Having seen how good Fire & Ice looked on black in Rose's magnificent effort, I'm not sure I'd dare use anything else! But as I was looking at the Sugar Maple fabrics I did think perhaps a very dark shimmering fabric might work -- like opalescent Abracadabra perhaps? Or one of the Silkweaver fabrics, on linen (because that usually works out darker), like Intrigue (this doesn't show the shimmer, but it is an opalescent); or Polstitches' Bewitched (you'll have to scroll down a bit).

Just a few stash ideas.... :-)

ooOOoo i haven't heard of polstitches, thanx for that M, i'm getting a bit mottle mad aren't i, hehe. I'm a bit :ribbit: mad today as well, that bit of gold i did yesterday? had to come out again today; miscounted one thread of the fabric *ggrrr* my OH ran and hid when he saw the scowl on my face. Luckily it wasn't as big a chunk as the last one.

Oh poor Steph. I had a project like that. It seemed I stitched it twice as everytime I got a bit done I came back and had to :ribbit: and do it over again. I made it through but it was called many bad names in the process.

As for the material for Fire and Ice. I like all of your choises but I just worry that to much background would take away from the actual stitching. Hey that is just me . I hope you find just the right material for how you want it to look.

Fantastic progress :applesauce:
I remember a while back that someone was able to look at the design they planned to stitch against different fabrics using computer stuff :D , I can remember that it was a bird, and it was on mottled fabric, but nothing else, it may help with deciding which of the fabrics to use.

You are right, Jilly, I think it is an option on one of the websites, you can choose a pattern and try it with different fabric as background - but I don't remember which one. :( Maybe someone else will know what it was.

Yep i'm starting to lean towards just plain black for horsey, but...there used to be a damask aida, used it once years ago on something - i can't remember what - slightly shiny stuff. I'm gonna trawl about and see if its still made.
I'm not too *ggrrr* about the frog today, because....*drum roll* i got the two pieces of sugar maple for autumn and christmas this morning! I can crack on with em all now. Except at the moment i'm in self-banishment from the living room....the troops have got the playstation on). OH is amazed how quickly embroidery stash arrives, he's just said 'you only sent for yesterday!' (the rare occasion he buys something online he ends up having to suffer that 28 day delivery lark, har...har...)

Image

I've cheated and gone for 28c for christmas, as she's not going to be hanging with the other four, when they eventually get framed; she'll go with the other christmas pictures i've done. (and i remembered last night i've got L & L's santa of the forest kicking about somewhere too *groans*)
