Mabel's designs 2024

Post by Mabel Figworthy »

Finally did a little more work on some long-standing projects. When I say "a little", I'm afraid I'm totally accurate :-D but at least it's got the things going again!

Some more split stitching on Llandrindod:

And I managed to get that red swirl satin stitched to my satisfaction:

First finish of the year   : the third of my Hannah Dunnett trees (the fourth will remain unfinished, but I did enjoy trying out trailing).

And some more progress on Llandrindod, including a trial run of the blending filament that picks out the gemstones' facets:

Well done! I've not tried trailing... love the result but not sure I have the patience...

progress on Llandrindod - all the split stitch finished, hurray! Now I'm having to decide whether I prefer the neutral pearlescent or the coloured blending filament for the coloured gems. (More detail on FoF)

I prefer the coloured threads, but then I would. And (having just read your FoF post), what if you only stitched the blingy thread on the lighter sides of the facets (the direction of the light source) rather than all the way around? (Maybe that's silly.) Then the pearl might look better?

Now there's a thought.... I might try that on the other two gems, one with colour in the light direction and one with pearlescent.

After comparing various combinations I settled on white pearlescent on the light side of the gems, and colour on the dark side. Now couching round the outside of the dark gold bits in Elizabethan twist, and finding that there are a few places where I will need to sneak in some more gold silk!

Knew you'd crack it! The gold twist is going to make the piece very luxurious.

Still battling the lurgy so my only stitching this week has been samples to be photographed for the mag article. Not very inspiring, but I was quite pleased with this Rhodes dot!

Beginning to recover from the flu but still feeling washed out so I'm doing some gentle designing for a course I'm hoping to teach later this year, involving or nué. Watch this space!

Somehow I fail to equate "washed out" with "gentle designing" and "or nué". All in one sentence. With an active verb.

It's a lot less active than actually picking up a needle. Also, as it's pencil on paper (and some digital lines on a computer), if I make a bad decision there is no need to unpick :-)

Also, it involves looking at pretty pictures of forget-me-nots and snowdrops, and occasionally playing with stash and coloured pencils.
