fccs’s Pretty Little Washington D.C. Mar 21 2024

Since I’m in Virginia, just outside D.C., for a week or so, I decided I should start Satsuma Street’s Pretty Little Washington, D.C. This is what it should look like:

]Image

I started it on the 19th, and this is my progress as of two nights ago. (I’ve done more but haven’t taken a photo.) The fabric is lighter and the colors more vibrant than they appear in the photo. I’ll try to get a better one for my next update.

Image

I went to the National Archives where the US Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights are housed. No photos are allowed of the founding documents so you’ll just have to take my word that it’s an incredible experience to see them. In keeping with the theme of this WIP, here’s the Washington Monument peeking through the trees as I walked back to the metro.

That is very brightly coloured for this time of the year. You will have to tell us Brits what each of the building is as you go along.

Its wonderful to be able to see these old documents, I remember seeing the Mappa Mundi and their chained library down in Hereford Cathedral, these old documents have such a depth of meaning it just takes your breath away.

I worked with 14th century documents when I was studying, and it doesn't get old!

That is going to be lovely. And how inspiring it must have been to see the original documents.

Since I’m in the DC area again I figured I should work on this. This is where I stopped last night. (It’s hard to see in the photo but the Washington Monument is starting to take shape on the left.). It’s my first Satsuma design and it’s really a fun stitch.

I haven’t stitched as much as I planned, but here’s my progress as of tonight. My goal was to have it finished before I leave DC (Tuesday morning). Now my goal is to have it finished before I leave for Hawaii on the 30th. I like flexible goals.

And here are a couple photos from my walk in DC a few days ago, the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial.

Flexible goals are always good in these cases! The pictures are pretty, too.

Well, I might not meet my goal of finishing this before my vacation. I only have two days left, and I have to work, pack, clean, etc., but I’ll see how much I can manage to get done in between all that. In the meantime, here’s where I left off tonight.

Well, I took this one to Hawaii with me and didn’t touch it. Then I took it down to Denver with me and again I didn’t touch it. But I did get some stitching in today, so finally I have an update. :-)

That's a thing that happens. But you are catching up now, and it's looking good. The pink cherry blossoms look particularly nice just about now!

I’ve made a bit more progress on this one. I’ve been working/volunteering without a day off for a week and a half, but tomorrow I’m off and hope to get lots of stitches in. Wish me luck. :-)

Nice to have a solid bit of stitching time - enjoy! A pleasant reward for all that work and volunteering.
