Mabel Figworthy wrote: Mon Jun 26, 2023 5:52 pm Oh that is so adorable! I love those shaggy little cows  and this captures them really well for such a small design.
I bought a cross stitch bookmark kit with more of the little hairy coo's (along with a paperweight, tote bag, picture, scarf, and Walker's cookies shaped like the cows - I did feel a slightly guilty when I bit off their little heads :? :D ) - yes, I am truly obsessed. And I recently discovered there is a ranch about an hour from me that has highland cows, so guess where I'm going in September? Yeppers!!

A wonderful gift(s) and you stitched them very well. A great memory will always be with them, I'm sure.

Here’s another little guy, another gift from my Scottish friend. It’s small and not complicated, and I had so many issues counting. Oh my goodness! I told her about the miscounting and she said the same happened to her when she stitched it. I have to iron it and finish it into its coaster case.

Looking good. I've done of few of those designs, and the backstitch can be tricky, too.

That is really pretty, it will make a lovely coaster! And the end result definitely doesn't show that the process was soo fraught :applesauce:

Yeah, most of my errors were in the backstitching.

Here's my little coo finished on a small canvas (a little crooked but you know how coo's can be lol) and my Celtic knot finished as a coaster.

(The coo I stitched for my non-stitchy friend is finished as the card it's supposed to be and will be mailed to her this week. No picture.)

They both look very nice and I like the idea of using them as a coaster so you can remind yourself of your holidays :applesauce:

October Eves is back from the framer. For the first time Hobby Lobby failed me by not getting it done in time to be entered in the county fair. It was due on 7/28 and drop off for the fair was 8/1. They didn’t finish it until Wednesday or yesterday and while I was very disappointed, I am very pleased with the framing.

It's very nice. Pity you missed this year's fair, but could you enter it next year (or do the categories change)?

It is a shame because I'm sure this would have gotten a ribbon (probably gold.) The framing is perfect for what is a beautifully stitched piece.

Nope. Entries have to have been completed in the year between fairs.

Ah. I suspected this. And, of course, you are honourable enough to abide by the rules. Our "show" only requires it not to have been shown before at our fair, so it doesn't matter when it was stitched or crafted. In truth, though, most entries are new.

I used to belong to the local chapter of the EGA (Embroiders Guild of America) and I know for a fact one of the ladies there enters things that were not stitched within the designated time frame. And she often wins. This year that same group is sponsoring the Champions awards.

(I was in the group for two or three years and finally after one meeting (i.e., stitching session) I realized how much I disliked the majority of the women there. Over the course of the years, one woman told me that I and everyone else new to Colorado should “just go back to where you came from” and another yelled at me for not signing one of my pieces. That same woman also told me I couldn’t sit in a certain place because she needed the space. Then there was the woman who, after a meeting, flung her car door open so hard it hit my car door and actually dented it, with scratches completely through the paint. And she was going to ignore it until I tapped on her car window. The final straw was when another woman encouraged us to “just run over” the Canada geese that cross the streets because “they shouldn’t be there and that’ll teach them.” She said the same went for the squirrels. The lady who “cheats” on her fair entries was actually the one I liked the best, and the only one who chastised the one yelling at me for not signing my piece. Yeah, I know, why did it take me so long to realize they were awful human beings???)
