Decorations 2022

Post by Roland »

Anyone want to post pictures of their decorations, whatever you may celebrate?

Here is my brand new tree top. It just arrived from Birmingham, UK.

I hope someone here recognizes it. :D

What a lovely tree and tree top decoration! I'm going to make this a "sticky" note through the holidays so everyone has a chance to post a photo if they want to and we can all enjoy the pictures.

Ours is not up yet, but on the top of the tree we generally have a "piek" which my aunt sent from the Netherlands. It makes me very nostalgic because our tree back when I lived in the Netherlands always had one.
In our family the decorations tended to be mostly white and silver, in DH's family a riot of colour, so we alternate between them :-) - the one below is one from a silver-and-white year, but this year is going to be coloured.

PS Artificial tree because of feline...

I think a "piek" or something very like it must be part of the German tradition, too, as I remember my paternal grandparents having something like this. Sort of finishes off a difficult bit of the tree...

Our decorations will go up towards the end of next week, I think.

It is a weeping angel. Not very traditional…but something I’ve wanted for a very long time.

Umm.... I shall look and appreciate everyone's decorations.

We don't decorate at all. There's a house in our village which must be attached to the National Grid  I think it could be seen from space.

Very pretty tree Mabel and I am impressed by Roland's " See no Evil" Angel

Oh, I do like that Doctor Who angel.

I’m going to have to enjoy everyone else’s decorations as I’m not doing any decorating this year, inside or out. I’m off to Virginia next week and don’t come back until after Christmas. For those of you who “know” Jackson, you know there is no way I can put my tree up this year when I’m not here to monitor his activity. :-)

If my kids have their tree up, maybe I can share decorations from their house. (I’ll be dogsitting while they go on a cruise but they’ll be home right before Christmas.) My neighbor and I usually go “Christmas light peeping” but I doubt I’ll have time for that this year. I have so much to do….ten days between getting home from one trip and leaving for another is not as long as it sounds.

Living on my own I do not decorate the house but for a number of years I had a potted Christmas tree outside on the patio hung with birdie treats. I can recommend a Christmas tree full of feeding/squabbling wild birds :D

Jo

P.S. Leave the tree outside (not in the conservatory) because they do poop a bit and the Robins given half a chance do like to explore to check for other edible opportunities
Every day we can make a difference :)

Here is a picture of some of my nutcrackers. Others are randomly around the house…windows, speakers, etc.

What a fantastic collection. Do you add a new one every year?

I used to. But now I go more for quality instead of quantity.

When my granddaughter was 3 or 4, she showed one day, looked up and said, “Grandma, you have a LOT of clowns!” So I’m keeping my eye out for a nice clown one.

We decided after all not to put the tree up as I couldn't quite face it - instead we've brought out a very special Nativity which was made by an artist friend of DH's grandmother. She gave her one character a year until it was complete. The figures are all handmade on a bendable wire frame and all the clothing is handmade as well. It's rather large so works well instead of a tree! There is an angel as well but we haven't yet found a way of suspending that where the crib is now.
