Apropos of nothing or What are your dreams?

Post by Sojourner »

Now for something completely different.
Browsing online, I came across The Louisiana River Boater's competence examination, done digitally.
This has of course, nothing at all to do with cross stitching.
And probably of zero interest to most on here.
Anyway, indulge me - I'm halfway through the test, and will soon (hopefully) be able to drive my boat on the Missouri River.
Just thought this would lighten up your day :applesauce:

In case you need further inspiration :) , here’s a picture of the Missouri as it flows through a dam in Great Falls, Montana. I’ve walked along the Missouri up there several times. (You can also see why Montana is called Big Sky Country.)

Let us know when we can expect to see your and your riverboat on the Missouri.

I'd love to. Once I've completed the exam, and got my ticket, it's just a matter of sailing singlehanded across the Atlantic and entering the US inland waterways. In a 10 ft long open boat, but it's been done before, so no problem.
One must have a dream.
Lovely picture, can't wait to be there.

Any takers?

Oh, you can totally do that. Easy peasy. :-)

I would be up for that, if the mods agree. I would see it as not as a bucket list discussion, because dreams are so much more than mere bucket list checkboxes. I have never had a bucket list, but I do have dreams….

We can give it a try and see who wants to add to this. I would be glad to change this Subject title and "stick it" and see what happens. Big dreams and little dreams and in between dreams (not in importance but maybe in size) allowed. Let me know if I can do this and like magic it can happen.

I have so many things popping in my head right now from silly little wishes to epic dreams. I'll start with a silly little one which I actually hear as I grocery shopped today. I LOVE ice cream. That is close to an understatement and I thought how wonderful it would be as I passed all the gallons and pints of ice cream I could chose and then being a "good girl" chose my usual low carb etc pretty good option and what I need to do to stay healthy ... but...

I want to go to the cold bit at the bottom of the planet. Deception Island, to be specific, and bathe in the hot springs there. I chose the spot by closing my eyes, flicking through an atlas and stuck a pin in it.

Until we moved here, I had hoped to build a steel yacht (a Bruce Roberts Spray 370 - I bought the plans too, planning to build the 370C junk rig version here: https://bruceroberts.com/public/HTML/S370.htm) so I could do it. But the elephantine mortgage on this house put a stop to that part of the dream.

Since then, it has become cheaper to go on a cruise to Antarctica than when I first had the dream, so maybe I'll get to do it eventually, but at someone else's itinerary rather than mine.

Well, that's my dream. Go a really long way to have a bath of dubious cleanliness. Doesn't sound terribly ambitious when you put it like that.

Regards,

Richard

OK, my (long held) dream is not unlike Richard's - to sail singlehanded around the world in a small boat built by myself.
Long ago - about 50 years :) - I lived in New Zealand for a while, and did actually build a 23ft wooden ocean going yacht in the back garden of the house I was renting, with a plan to sail home to the UK, at least. However, life got in the way, or rather family illness, necessitating a return home by plane and selling the boat. Since then I've built several more boats, though much smaller, and cruised most of the UK's inland waterways.
Dream has shrunk, but, getting there.

So many dreams…I’ll start with one that the older I get, the less I think about it, but…I dreamed of being more athletic. Actually, I should a say dream of mine was to be at least a little athletic. As a child, I had polio (fully recovered) and as a result, I think my parents just didn’t believe I could ever do anything. Or….I was the baby of three girls so maybe they were just too tired to deal with me. Hmmmm…..

Your dreams seem to be water-based. And US waters, at that. Have you read a lot of Mark Twain?

A couple of my friends did a trip down the Amazon…I’ll take US rivers, thank you, after they described the mosquitoes. Well, also because I’m in the US so the rivers are much closer than the Amazon. :-)

Yep, Huck Finn eat your heart out.
I'd be more concerned about the crocs, snakes and pirana fish in the Amazon!!
