Your Austin is fabulous, and your parasol and umbrella are stunningly beautiful. And to be in the magazine - congratulations! It’s a well deserved honor.

The Austin is lovely, and Latin too, you are a woman of many talents Mabel.

Is it okay I want to name the Austin Herbert? I always had names for my cars.

You can name him whatever you like :-) DH is generally not one for naming cars, so this one (our honeymoon car) is just known as the Chummy (which was Austin's informal name for the model). The Box Saloon (the blue one with the black roof) which we acquired about 4 years ago, however, is known as Hilda (long story to do with the colour called Oxford Blue and the fact that Youngest went to St Hilda's College at the illustrious institution), and the family Lagonda has been called Lily ever since it was owned by DH's grandmother.

:applesauce: :applesauce: Perfect. What I'm trying to figure out is why the cars you stitch always seem to bring a smile to my face. I'm not into cars other than to make sure mine is in shape for me to drive it, but these cars almost have a personality.

They do have personalities! They aren't quite from the dawn of motoring (that was a fair few decades earlier) but they weren't quite so samey as modern cars can be (with apologies to modern car fans...)

Bit of an update on James, who has now temporarily been put away because I'm not sure I like the way his brick looks. But he's not abandoned :-) !
More detail about the stitching process so far on FoF.

Hi James!

I think his brick is looking lovely, though as always you have to be happy with it.

He has such character  him

mmmm The extra straight lengths now appearing look out of place to me. The beginning 1 or 2 were ok but now you haave extended the numbers it happears to 'take over' the design.

Been away in the Netherlands for 8 days, took three projects, stitched very little :-)
But there has been some progress on Do-Pea the dodo/peacock:

This is so different from what I expected to see and I love it! :applesauce: :applesauce: I don't know if he (she?) is a dodo or a peacock, but I think he (she?) could be straight out of Alice in Wonderland. I love the colors and can't wait to see more!

You must have had a good time in the Netherlands if you stitched very little, spending time with family and friends.

Since little stitching was done, I'm presuming your time in the Netherlands was full and happy.

Love the peacock. In my head I'm pronouncing his/her name as "Dopey". Seems appropriate...

Interesting take on patterning the tail :applesauce:

"Dopey" I won't be able to get that one out of my head now when I work on my Peacock Tapestry

If you look at rocks they might look better if the 'strata' isn't in straight lines. Could you "chop" the gold thread up a bit?
Never having done any goldwork I'm probably talking through my Wombat Hat!
I think I must be thinking of 'long and short' stitch.

As for Doe-Pea...I think he's :whoop: :whoop: wonderbubble! :applesauce:

@Serinde Visit to NL was really good, lots of family, friends and tulips :-) - and Do-Pea is definitely meant to be pronounced Dopey!

@Wendy I've been sketching combinations of straight lines and chipwork, will do some experimenting after my RSN class next week.

Card for a girl (now woman) whose mentor I was for three years when teaching at secondary school, and who is going through a very very difficult time. "Sterkte" literally means "strength", it's what we say in support and/or encouragement when people are having problems or difficulties.

The "strength" card is lovely and I'm sure it will be appreciated and I hope she will gain strength from it, knowing you are supporting her in her struggles.

As for Dopey - I love him!
