Jo's stitching 2022

Post by Steam.Jo »

Another year has arrived so I thought I would start with showing you where I am:

Last year I started working on the Teresa Wentzler Peacock Tapestry:

Image

It is on 25 count evenweave, almost every stitch uses mixed colour thread strands, there are quarter and half stitches but it is very enjoyable to do and difficult to put down once I pick it up. But I normally like to have one hard and one easy one on the go. The current "easy one" isn't as easy as it should be:

Image

This is the Gold Collection Woodland Enchantress by Dimensions, which is a scaled down copy of the HAED picture that was named Spring Fairy by Sanderson. Its on 16 count Aida and in theory only has whole stitches - I am using quarter and half stitches to smooth out some of the blocky edges. Like the other Gold collection ones this is a real mixture: full cross stitches can be with 2 threads or 3 threads or two mixed strands. There is also half stitches which can use between 3 and 5 strands and to keep me on my toes mixed numbers of different threads in those strands. There is a bit of couching to do and some cabling as well as the usual backstitch and French knots, all polished down with some beading :D

I will admit that a couple of :anotherfrog: :anotherfrog: were required this last week on this piece when I realised one of the background colours had been started one row up

And one you don't normally see:

Image

I've been doing this one at our sewing group and as I come to the end I have realised I do not like the way the kit is intended to be made up (it only has a front and no back with felt pages tagged behind so I will have to think about it. I do like needle cases and I was lucky to be given the chart for the TW Needle Guardian  When I got it home to realise the sheet with the chart thread symbol details was missing  Thankfully TW provides the thread colours on her web pages so I only need to guess which one is which.

I have reviewed my Stash and.... am pleased to see that we only have to admit to what we buy this year so you will have to wait to see what emerges from its hiding hole as the year progresses. All I will say is that a year is not long enough to do all of them

:applesauce: :applesauce: Great start for the new year! I am certainly looking forward to the progress on your current 2 projects. And of course, anything else that you create in this new year. And I agree about a year not being enough time. I need a decade or more to do all I want to do (maybe a lifetime  ) assuming I don't buy or get anything new.

Lovely projects, both quite challenging in their own way! We'll have a lot of lovely things to see in this thread in the coming year I'm sure.

I normally only provide updates at the weekend but on this cold winter's morning I thought you might like to see there are signs of the sun coming up:

Image

And while I noticed a primrose in flower in my garden, the ones in this picture will be a few weeks behind

I certainly know your pain with the blended colours in TW peacock tapestry. Mine has been on hold for absolutely ages because sometimes it just seems too much trouble.
You might just have sparked a bit of enthusiasm to get mine out and have another go - thank you!
I shall await updates with gleeful delight.

They have a bit - but I'm sure we can work something out! I think the "Posting pictures" thread has been updated to include alternatives to those pciture storage sites that don't work anymore, so perhaps that would help?

Would be smashing to have both peacocks on the go :whoop:

While we have had a wet end to the week you can see from the rays of sun that the weather in my piece that they have had a light snow covering and little wind since it fell:

Image

It dawned on me that this is a picture of sandy (dry) heathland from the exposed roots of the tree on the mound and the light colour of the soil, it is similar to places we go as a group on our Monday walks :)

Still no signs of the last piece I ordered for Christmas last year :tantrum:
