I've left the decorations up, but the glasses are washed and put away. 8)

I need a :coffee: and :cake: . A refund has gone straight out the door again... Lowery stand(s) and a whole bunch of stuff -- legitimately; for a craft article I'm putting together -- from Paper and String. Might need a cold compress in St Cross Stitchers...

A dangerous shop, that!

But if the stand(s) etc was/were paid for by a refund, well, technically they're free aren't they? *innocent stare*

Serinde, you mentioned a slate frame from Jessica Grimm - I've just been on her website but can't see them there. Am I overlooking them? (Not that I need another slate frame, but I wanted to see how it compared to the Jenny Adin-Christie one I've got)

I might have been given the last one for Christmas -- she's basically closed her online shop; anyway, she's having a terrible time sending anything to the UK (which is why I didn't, in the end, sign up for her medieval goldwork class). Once I get mine out, I'll post photos, if that helps.

Speaking of classes, I have been tempted by this.

I've got her book, which is excellent (even though, as Mary Corbet points out, she confuses St Lawrence with St Stephen :-) ). Online classes don't really do it for me so I'll be just having a go with the help of the book :-)

Tanya Bentham also has a new book on Bayeux stitch...

Mabel, I suspect you've just sold the book to me... I have a little Christmas money left over, and the V&A Opus Anglicanum Exhibition book is less expensive at Amazon than I have seen for a while, too.

Regards,

Richard.

I have that book. I love it. Serinde, if you sign up for that class I hope you will post lots of pictures of your progress. I would be tempted except that the thought of paying the shipping (if its even possible to ship to the US) for the materials makes me faint. And right now I'm trying to hold expenses down (had a few big items this past month, besides Christmas). Sounds exciting!

Richard, the V&A Opus Anglicanum book is a treasure trove of well-researched information and absolutely incredible photographs - highly recommended! Tanya Bentham's book is more aimed at the practicalities of creating your own OA project (with or without a modern twist) and is very instructive.

Serinde, I didn't know about the Bayeux book (another temptation...), but I have downloaded her Bayeux sheep outline to stitch with my sheep-mad friend :-)

The Bayeux stitch book is new -- she's taking pre-orders on her website.

(Are you noticing that the S&G is almost operating like the old and much-missed chat box?)

Well, a pub is an excellent place to chat :-)

Having a look at her website I noticed the pre-order option. I've just availed myself of it...

I have ordered both books. The Opus Anglicanum book has been on my list since going to the exhibition. I understand the Tanya Bentham book is aimed at helping people make the stuff and is the very reason I'm getting it. I'm hoping it's the sort of book relating to OA embroidery that Jo Verso's 'Complete Cross Stitch Course' is to cross stitch, ie a way to enable a beginner to bootstrap themselves to an adequate level of competence.
