Joseph looks rather as if he's wondering what he's doing in the line-up...

How true to life.
The Bible story explicitly states he was totally uninvolved in the process, so why was he there?

Regards,

Richard

That's a bit unfair on Joseph, Richard :-) - true, he was uninvolved in the conception of the child, but he was considerate and kind, not wanting to shame Mary even before an angel told him the child was God's; taking on a child that wasn't his knowing neighbours would either think it was and he'd been a bit quick with his fiancée, or it wasn't his and he was a cuckold looking after another man's child; and looking after them when they had to escape to Egypt. He seems to have been altogether a very decent man!

It is an enigma to me why the Bible made the whole story so complicated.Usually myths are very straight away.

And to fulfil the prophesies, he had to be of the House of David, which could only happen because Joseph adopted him into it.

@Lyudmila. Some are more complex than others.

Personally I would say, of course, that that is because it isn't a myth :-)

Sent to me today by a cousin - I knew there was a reason why the Nativity that was hand-made by DH's grandmother's artist friend hasn't come out for a few years...
