Newbie greetings!

Hello all!
Thank you for the add admins, I have been a fan of this forum for just a short time but it has helped me so much.

I picked up my first cross stitch about three years ago as a new hobby, but I was completing it on and off and I only just finished it in lockdown.
I didn’t realise I actually picked quite a complicated one with half, quarter, three quarter and back stitches on nearly the whole thing, but it is beautiful and I’m so pleased.
I made a lot of mistakes though (like making a knot to hold the first stitch) so I learnt a lot by watching videos. But having all your expertise here will be lovely and it has been refreshing to read everyone else’s lessons here.

What really made me take this up again was my dad passing away recently. Processing everything that happened, I found solace in cross stitching. I’m enjoying the peace and calm I'm in when I’m cross stitching.

I also have Rheumatoid arthritis, and reading everyone’s set up has been useful. If anyone has any advice please do let me know! I have a wrist support when joints hurt from the occupational therapists. I’m trying to pace myself everyday, would hate to flare up and not be able to stitch for a while.

I bought a lowery stand based on raving reviews.
I’m a bobbin girl (thought I was stitchbow)
I have enough projects for the next year, dear god there is so much to do!

Didn’t mean to write so much, thanks for reading :D

Only enough projects for the next year?? Wise Owl, you have come to the right place (Enablers R Us), we'll soon have you on a track to SABLE in no time (stash acquisition beyond life expectancy, since you ask).

So sorry about your father, but glad you had the solace of stitching. Many of us have found this to be true over the years.

You will be aware of the Stash & Grab, our pub, I trust, as well as St CrossStitchers Hospital in case your arthritis acts up. The fact that they are connected by a revolving door is one of those little added extras. :P We also have a padded room full of china, for the purposes of virtual smashing when things become a bit much. We've gone through an awful lot of crockery lately, can't imagine why :thinks:

 Hello Wise Owl and welcome to the forum from South Carolina! Cross stitching can be a great solace when dealing with life’s difficulties. I am also sorry to,hear about your father and hope that the forum. An also bring you comfort . Serinde has already told you about “sable” and I will only warn you that we do,have a tendency to encourage this kind of behavior. I am pretty sure I have enough stash to last a few lifetimes.

Ask as many questions as you want to. The odds are someone will know the answer or will have a good idea of where to go to find the answer. Looking forward to seeing your projects (hope you will post pictures for us to see and admire the ) and getting to know you.

Carole
:D

Hahaha oh dear what have I got myself into, I need stop shopping for more kits and charts and patterns. I’m glad I’m not alone here...my excuse is, they could sell out one day and then I’d regret it. :D

What a lovely warm welcome thank you  . So glad I can release my cross stitch talk somewhere! I know nobody else who I can unload all my cross stitch talk onto!

I’ll update me signature but so far I’m completed a yellow rose from hobbycraft and a long stitch one to see if I would like it from Amazon, legend of the sea.

What’s the best way to add photos on here?

Well, quite. I see you will fit in here just the thing. :P

People use different online sites to upload photos. I use this one, for example. Start a thread in the SAL section (we rarely do proper stitch-alongs, but the name stuck) and post your photo. Be aware that you must have (I think) 10 posts before you'll be able to post up images. :ribbit:

Serinde, something has gone wrong with your link, it includes the CSF url as well as Post Image.

Wise Owl, I use Post Image too, you can find it here. It's a bit basic, but it works!

No matter what the circumstances, one should always have a second cup of tea! (or even better, a mug)

Welcome from me too. Bit late but we have just changed location from SW France to the Scottish Borders so not been on line much.
Looks like you've had lots of advice and hints from everyone. 8)
This forum is the best for friendship and answers. :whoop:
