I finished another motif last night - the train. I haven’t gone to the park to see Big Boy #4004 yet, but I plan on doing that on my next trip up to Cheyenne. If anyone is interested in the Big Boys, here’s a Wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Pacific_Big_Boy

Two more motifs are done: the covered wagons and the Indian Paintbrush flower (the state flower of Wyoming). And that’s Jackson trying to get my tiny scissors.

I found a picture of the Indian Paint Brush. I don’t think I’ve seen one in person yet.

And it’s a finish. I finished the stitching this morning and tossed it in the washer this afternoon. I gave it a quick iron, took the picture, and now it’s hanging to finish drying. I absolutely love it, but boy was it challenging. It’s hand charted and the symbols and back stitch lines were hard to decipher. I changed several things on the design. The top was supposed to have the Grand Tetons but I left them off because they aren’t in Cheyenne and you can’t see them from Cheyenne. The chart also had an outer border but it was kind of “frilly” and I don’t think it “matched” the overall design. The box below the flower was charted to be satin stitched, as was the box below the feather on the left side. I thought they looked out of place, almost like the designer just needed something to fill those blocks, so I changed one to show the elevation of Cheyenne and the other to show the year Cheyenne was established. (The year at the top is the year Cheyenne was designated the Wyoming capital.) The feather box was charted to be completely filled, but I didn’t like it. The chart called for the words for CFD to be “the daddy of them all” but on the CFD official site, and elsewhere, it is known as “the daddy of ‘em all” so I went with that. The bottom box called for the year of statehood (1890) to be on both the left and right sides, but I decided to add the month and day of statehood. And finally (I think) I changed the “W” in Wyoming. It was charted with an oddly fancy “W” done in the dark blue and yellow. I stitched it and hated it, so I designed my own “W” and I like it. The “stitched by” box was charted with random flowers on each side and the words “stitched with love by” but I changed it. (Oddly, the designer didn’t include an alphabet to be used for the stitcher’s name.)

If you’ve made it this far through my long narrative, here’s the finished piece. I can’t wait to get it framed.

I just brought this home from the framer (Hobby Lobby) and I absolutely love it. I would never have considered this frame, and when the framer showed it to me, my initial response was “meh.” Then we laid the corner piece on the design and I decided I actually liked it. When I picked it up, I decided I actually LOVE it.
