Thank you all. And yes this is getting trickier by the moment. I'm back into the lighter colors and this fabric is a lighter shade than the last one so if I make a mistake (and I do  ) it is harder to see where it is so I can fix it. This is the second in the trio I am planning on. Not sure all three will be done by the shower, but then again maybe the shower will be canceled. My niece is worried about the virus so of course, like everything else its up in the air for now. More important to protect her and the baby (and would give me more time too  ). Hope everyone is safe and staying healthy so we don't have a run on St. Cross Stitchers though of course we are fully staffed and prepared for all contingencies.

Best thing to stay safe. When I wish my friend 'happy birthday' she always replies that she can have a birthday whenever she likes...sometimes several a year!!

So I say to your niece...Have that Baby Shower when you like. I doesn't have to be at an arranged time. The most important thing is that she and the baby stay safe and not worry about tradition!

I've just been saying much the same to a lady who looks to have her wedding cancelled - the important part is getting married if possible with say just bride, groom and minister/registrar (or in the case of this shower, having the baby, which will not self-isolate for ever) and having a slap-bang party later when it's safe!

Can't believe how long its been since I updated this. Been working on it in spurts but made progress. I send updated photos to my sister and even though she has seen what it is supposed to look like, she can't make out the image. It's kind of like an optical illusion I guess and she can't adjust her eyes for it.
I hope all of you aren't having the same problem.

Here it is:

Thank you all for your encouragement and for looking!

Thank you for your comments and tactful honesty. It is weird isn't it that more than half is done and it is still hard to see what it is. When I look at it at first, I see a big black cat in the middle (Rorschach test). But because I know what the angle is, and because I compare it to the picture of the finished piece, regularly, I am not too worried that it will look right as soon as the baby's head is stitched. It's kind of like stitching a mystery piece. I shouldn't have told y'all what it is supposed to be but made it into a guessing game with a prize at the end. Have to remember that when I start working on the 3rd one.

I could see from the original picture on the kit what the first update was but now it is like picture magic!
Well done, Carole :applesauce:
I am glad that you are sailing through stitching this lovely picture :)

Oooh I can see the cat now that you mentioned it :-D ! Great progress, and at some point it will miraculously look exactly the way it's meant to.

I think the image is getting much clearer or my eyes have so adjusted to it that I can see the mother's image/profile pretty easily. I know once the baby's head is stitched there won't be a problem.

Thank you for looking.

The cat has disappeared!
But I know it's still there, secret sneaky cats are the more dangerous ones...

It is actually looking rather good.

thank you all for your comments and feedback. The child's head is now part of the picture! I'm hoping to finish it by the end of this week if possible as I plan to take completed photos of the two pieces that are done and put them into a .pdf file and send them to my niece so she can at least see what's coming and show it at the "shower". I am proud enough of them that I really do want to show off a bit. I know its not the right reason, but being locked up with myself (and a cat) for so long makes me more honest with myself, I think.

Here tis:

@Richard, I think it is so cool that the black cat image will always be on my future nephew's baby sampler. It is always the first thing I notice and it makes me smile. Kind of like I put Rosey into the pattern without even knowing it.

Thanks for looking.
