The North Wind Finished! 2/2/2019

Post by Kuschelschaf »

So, after the whole ferret in sepia debacle, I decided I needed more color in my life and my designs (at least for now). That being said, I tried out my Starry Night kit by Riolis and had a major disaster trying to wind my threads onto bobbins, as I tend to do with all my kits. I ended up with a tangled up knotted mess and a kitten who decided to join in on the tangled up fun...  I am now out two bundles of the yarn/thread they include and wrote to Riolis for more. Hopefully they will get back to me and explain what the heck to do with their yarn/threads.

After the Riolis fiasco, I decided to work on The North Wind from Little House Needleworks. I fell in love with the design when someone posted it here a while back. I kitted it up for myself shortly after seeing the post and I am finally working on it!

My camera on my tablet is awful (I have a rather cheap rca android tablet. It's convenient but it has a horrible camera). I am stitching this on 32 ct vintage tundra linen, using classic colorworks threads. I just love the little robin, but I will have to work on his feet tomorrow. I have to be up early for work and it's already 1 AM here!!

More progress to come :)

Riolis usually kits its designs with "wool" (acryl). But they also make kits with ordinary cotton threads I have been told.

I LOVE the fact that they use wool. I just wasn't sure if it was thread or yarn, so I was just calling it yarn/thread because it's kind of both. At any rate, it's really nice to stitch with (of the 7 or so stitches I actually finished in Starry Night) and it has a nice matte effect to it. It also gives really, really good coverage on 14 ct aida. I didn't think I would enjoy it, but I really do.

The customer service team got back to me and explained how to handle their wool. It comes in hanks but it needs to be cut first and they recommend not putting it on bobbins for the whole issue of it tangling. And, they're going to send more wool so I have enough to stitch with. :D Yay! :D

:applesauce: Good start on the robin! I like stitching with bright colors, especially if I need cheering up. Looking forward to seeing more of this one.

Thanks Lulu- I always worry because I stitch on linen normally, but I never use a hoop or frame. It's nice to know that my tension looks right. It seems fine in my hand but you never know how it looks to others.

Kuschelschaf , your robin and snowflakes look perfect. I am looking forward to more updates :D
I know about the 1am feeling : You want time to stitch, even if you have to get up early the next morning for work.

What a time you had with the Riolis kit! I bet your little kitten thought of it as a new game.
