Thank you for your kind comments. I really would have set this aside if it wasn't intended for someone else. It's not at all thr sort of stitching I enjoy. That said, altho fiddly, it's quite fun w' all the bright colours.

Update soon ....

I've been a busy bee lately and haven't had too much chance to stitch, but I have managed some on the Wagon.

Here's the latest update. I've nearly finished the 4th page. Two more to go!!

The fire was fun to stitch - it uses a variegated thread, which is very effective I think.

Re: WIP - Cut Thru' Gypsy Wagon (Bothy Threads) - FINISHED!!

Post by Slinky »

At last! It's finished. Haven't been about here much as have been stitching away madly trying to complete this project.

Anyway, here it is:

Image

For those thinking about trying a Cut Thru project, my brief thoughts are
i) I loved the bright colours
ii) I loved the small little details which made it easy to do individual bits at a time
iii) The backstitching is not for the faint hearted!
iv) Do the backstitching as you go.
v) The chart is 6 pages in black and white, and not the easiest to follow. (In fact there are 2 charts, one for the cross stitches, and one for backstitching.)
vi) There is plenty of thread provided.
vii) The fabric is cut VERY scantily, there is literally only 2" all the way round. Ensure you start in the absolute middle.
viii) The chart uses only whole stitches, to its detriment, I felt. I put my own fractional stitches in throughout to give the backstitching a smoother line.

Did I enjoy it? Yeeeessss, she says hesitantly. I'll not be rushing to do another though as, to be honest, the series is a bit too whimsical for my taste, and I wouldn't choose that much backstitching again. But it wasn't as complicated as it looks and the colours and variety were fun, and the backstitching makes the picture complete.
