Total newbie!

Hi everyone! I'm new to cross-stitch, and this forum seems active and helpful. c: So here I am!

My name is Jeanne and I'm 27 years old. I've been experimenting with various crafts as a way to prevent snacking... if my hands are busy, I can't eat. But crochet was boring, knitting was too difficult, and most of the other crafts I tried were too messy.

Then I saw an interesting cross-stitch pattern, and I had to try it out! (I'm a big Steven Universe fan.)
https://www.reddit.com/r/stevenuniverse ... se_quartz/" target="_blank
I'm about three days away from completing it, and I'm thrilled with the results. It wasn't difficult -- just time-consuming -- and it's slowed down my snacking for the past month. Couldn't be happier!

I'm looking for my next pattern now. I'd like to try a cross-stitch version of some classic art... a big project that'll last a while.

Looking forward to exploring this forum and making some like-minded friends!

:wave: Hi Jeanne and welcome to the forum from South Carolina! And welcome to cross stitching, a hobby (or obsession) that does help keep your fingers busy and away from food. Sometimes.

There is a lot to learn and lots of variety with projects, techniques and designs. There are a lot of websites with designs of classic art which can keep you busy for a long time. A few to consider are :Golden Kite with designs that are very detailed and use a lot of blended threads; Mystic Stitch; Heaven and Earth Designs (scroll down past the photobucket gallery of stitched designs to see the art available); Cross Stitch Collectibles-Fine Arts Collection;

I hope that you will stay with us and post pictures of your progress! We love pictures! Looking forward to getting to know you!

Carole

And, in a couple of centuries, when you have exhausted the offerings of the places Carole has suggested, you can convert the images you love yourself (photos etc). That then expands the available pool of images massively, and reduces the cost (if you use freebie software).

So, a massive welcome & hope you continue to enjoy it.

Regards,

Richard.
