New project, color customization question

Post by LaughingDonuts »

I've started stitching this

Image

I'm just doing two birds (for me and my husband) and will add if a little bird joins us some day. My dilemma is on the color of the "family" lettering. It's a second time around stitch for me, so I want it to be a bit different. Also, teal doesn't match our decor.

My go-to is my favorite royal blue, but it feels too bright for this project, so I'm thinking with a dark red or a sage green. What do you all think?

I love this, and I like the idea of a dark red, burgundy perhaps?

If it has to match the décor, possibly you could give a hint as to what it is, so the suggestions won't be too silly.
The alternative is to change the décor to suit the picture... Now I must admit, the suggestion is a bit extreme, but do you feel the need to redecorate? If so, this could be the excuse you're looking for.

As a general feeling, I think you should go for the DMC satin effect Turquoise (S995 or failing that standard 996 or 3846). Beautiful vibrant colour, and it won't be too bright - everything else just looks a bit dull next to it. I always use this thread for my signatures on my pieces, as it's the closest thread colour to my favourite fountain pen ink I can find, Pelikan 4001 Turquoise. Some of the light effects ones might be good. How about DMC E825, Sapphire Blue http://www.cross-stitch-heaven.co.uk/e- ... 1389-p.asp? It's darker than Royal Blue, but the light effects will make it have impact.

Richard

I agree. However, if you gave a hint about your decor, as Richard suggested, it would be easier to suggest colors. Are you limiting this to DMC colors?

Without knowing what your decor is, we really can't make a suggestion based on that. Have you considered a variegated thread? It's a very basic design, so any color you decide to go with will look fine.

We've only been married a year, so I suppose our theme is "hand me downs". I like blue, he likes red. Kitchen is green because I always wanted a green kitchen.

I'm ready for color now!

Pulled a few colors from my stash. I think I'm leaning toward the lighter green since its most similar in tone to the original blue.

Husband hated the light green, so darker it was.

Looks nice, and I like the idea you're going to amend it is new family members appear.
