Mabel's Mum

Post by Mabel Figworthy »

Just a flying visit to say that I got an emergency call last Sunday to come to The Netherlands as my mother was having bad bleeds and had been taken to hospital. I managed to get the night ferry to arrive on Monday morning and was with her from then until she passed away yesterday morning; fortunately I was allowed to stay around the clock and they even provided a bed for me in Mum's room (which I didn't get to use much but it was thoughtful nonetheless) and food as well.
Although sad that I won't see her again in this life it was wonderful to be able to watch with her, and comforting to know that she was more than ready to go to her heavenly Father.

I'm gettiing the funeral arrangements done at the moment (supported by several helpful friends); DH will join me here on Sunday, and the funeral and service of thanksgiving will be on Wednesday (as she had such a strong faith it would have been nice to have had it on Easter Sunday or Monday but apparently they don't do that). Then it's back to England, and a few days away for DH and me to catch our breath and have a little time off. After that I hope things will start getting back to normal again, and I look forward to haunting the forum again!

Sending sincere condolences, love & prayers for you & your family Mabel. I am so sorry to hear about your mother but glad that you were able to be with her right up to the end. That gives you comfort & it must have also been such a comfort for her to know you were there. Even if she slipped into a coma I believe they can hear. My mum was in a coma for a few weeks & I sat & talked to her a lot. Sadly I was not with her when she died, only a 2 hour car journey away, but she slipped away in hospital with 2 nurses holding her hands. They told me it was peaceful. I am very glad you were able to say goodbye properly to your mother Mabel & how very kind of the nurses to provide you with a bed.

You & your DH deserve a break & I hope you can come to terms with things as they are now & find some peace in your life too Mabel, Take care & cme back to us when you are ready.

Love & hugs, :grouphug:

PS Don't forget to give yourself some TLC too.

So sorry for your loss, what a lovely gesture by the hospital re the bed and the fact you were allowed to stay with her, these things really make the difference at such times. I know your mum had been ill a while and so this was not unexpected but it still hurts just as badly. I hope all goes well next week and do take care of yourself too. Hugs xx

I'm so sorry Mabel, I know you will be comforted by her going on to God, as I was with my Grandmother who was a lifelong missionary. It doesn't mean you don't get to miss them, or feel quite dreadful at times. It's very hard but the good memories are great comfort.

I'll add you to my prayers (no reiki, as we agreed long ago) and know you are in my thoughts as well.

Biggest hugs
