Well, I have been working on Gryff since I put up my last 'Luz' Update up. I have not been making the sort of spectacular progress that VanessaJ gets, but probably averaging 100 stitches a day or so. So, I am continuing to work on Page 10 of the chart:
Image

I am probably around half way through the page, with the top 40 odd rows complete and quite a few stitches done below. I have noticed I've been running out of two of the colours of thread. Maybe for a 'Medium Complexity' image like this, my program needs to make the thread reserve factor bigger than the 2x stitch length it is at present.
Anyway, the progress is as below:

Hope this is of interest,

Regards,

Richard

I don't know which of your projects I like more, this one or the other. I think my favorite one is whichever one you give an update on. :) Lookin' good, my friend. :)

I can’t believe I missed this update. Your work is outstanding and you really shouldn’t worry about how fast or slow you are. As long as you are enjoying it is the main thing. I am certainly enjoying watching your progress :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce:

I missed this too, Richard you could be forgiven in thinking Gryff is a painting not a cross stitch it's superb :applesauce:

Things have been slow going. FIL has a minor skin cancer and his depression has been getting out of hand, then coupled with very intensive design work on a box to transport a spacecraft, and I have been left utterly exhausted with little energy to expend on my cross stitch.

Anyway, I have been doing a little more to page 10 of the chart:

And the result (rolled over the right roller of the frame at the right edge):

Seems to be going nicely, even if unbelievably slow.

Richard.

"Unbelievably Slow" ???..... but it's not meant to be a race, Richard!!

This has to be my favourite of your two WIP's

Good luck with the spacecraft box and I hope that FIL's depression doesn't overwhelm you all!

Oh my goodness,

This is stunning, Gryff looks like a painting, well almost, his fur looks so realistic, I want to reach in and stroke him.

I can see definite progress from the last update.

The way I look at progress is that it doesn't matter if it is one stitch or one hundred stitches, they are stitches that weren't there before, and no-one ever said this wonderful craft/hobby is a race.

I have read this whole thread through from the beginning and it is amazing to me that you not only took the photo of Gryff, but you designed a whole cross stitch programme too ( not only for this project) and I read your stories about your cats on your pen website, they were/are all such characters, Thank you for sharing a glimpse of the fun and the heartache. You are definitely under the paw

I do hope your FIL's depression can be controlled, it is such a cruel and heartless illness, robbing energy and motivation when it is most needed.

Erm.....did I read that right, a spacecraft box? Is there anything that you can't turn your hand to :D

:applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce: One new stitch is progress and since you have completed more than one new stitch, you have made some lovely progress. I love this project. The design is beautiful, Gryff is coontastic and you stitching clearly shows that.

Spacecraft box!!!!! What corner of the universe will the craft be going to?! That is awesome!!!

Yes, a spacecraft box. There is a new communications satellite to go into geostationary orbit (for people like Sky) being launched next year, and the box is a bit special, and a bit big. If it were ever to go outside my double fronted Victorian house, the top of the box would be half way up the upstairs windows and it would be longer than the entire frontage. The box has air conditioning, insulation, 20 electric motors to do 'things', and needs to be moved with its own generators. The spacecraft is very valuable. Don't know the exact figure, but £100 million seems about the right order, and it'll pay for itself in 2 years. The company making the spacecraft hopes to make 300 odd over the next 15-20 years, and they will all be moved in the box.

I also designed the transport container for the ill-fated Beagle 2 Mars lander to take it from the UK to the launch site in Kazakhstan. We were all so disappointed that the Beagle went 'thud' on arrival, it had been a huge team effort.

Is there anything I can't turn my hand to? Yes; many, many, many things. Poetry is one ('Sheep crawled across the hillside like maggots on a carcase' was on line that had my English teacher up in arms when I was at school) , gardening is another (I have black thumbs, not green, everything I try to look after dies, everything I ignore thrives) and medical stuff - I'm too squeamish to watch medical dramas like 'Holby' or 'ER'. The rest - I'll keep quiet about. :?

Anyway, thankee all for the comments on the stitching.

Regards,

Richard.
