Stitchin' With Josie (Updated - Sep 23, 2016)

Post by salome »

Figured I'd start a thread about my own stitchy work!

My most recent finishes - AKA what I've finished since I picked stitching up again after too long a break... Forgive me in advance, as none of these have been washed/ironed and are rather grungy.

Image
ABC Governor's Palace (Colonial Williamsburg) - by The Posy Collection. I purchased this years ago in Williamsburg and one day when I came across it I decided to actually do the darn thing. I goofed the border and since this photo was taken have removed it and redone it. Will post a photo of it when I pull it out for gifting.

Image
God Sent Special Things - by Janlynn. Done for my mother, but I'm not sure yet if I'm happy with it or not. Some of the flowers are weird, the basket backstitching is strange, etc. If I can find a way to mat and frame it so the bottom third doesn't show, I may give it to her. Oh, originally it was supposed to say 'God sent special things our way' but I changed it to 'your way' because my mom thinks of all her cats as a gift from God.

Image
All You Need Chalkboard - by Janlynn. Done for my aunt, a huge fan of The Beatles. The thread that came with the kit was a million headaches and after many :anotherfrog: :anotherfrog: I swapped it out for another white I had in my stash (from one of those huge multipacks Walmart sells by J&P Coats) - after that it was a breeze. I learned two things doing this: 1) I hate French knots with a passion, and 2) if I don't announce to people that there were French knots in the pattern, they won't know! All in all, I'm happy with how this turned out.

Image
Rose - Freebie pattern found online. Stitched in two bobbinated colors the names/numbers of which I know not. Mainly done as a way to hone my skills. Will be finishing it in a birthday card for my sister-in-law.

Image
Snowflake - Freebie pattern found online. Stitched in one of the afforementioned colors.

Needless to say, I've learned quite a bit and honed my previous skills over the past two months. The tips and advice I've picked up just browsing this wonderful place has helped me immensely!

And that brings me to my current WIP:

Image
Live, Laugh, Love - Janlynn. Doing it for my wonderful mother-in-law. I hope to have it done for Christmas, but am working hard to make sure I don't make mistakes.

Thanks for looking!

Those are all great! I especially like the kittens in the basket, and the current WIP is going to be really lovely...and of course the "all you need is love" is fabulous - and now I have the Beatles in my head.

:applesauce: :applesauce: I join in with the others. These are all good, but I especially love the kittens (and agree with your mom that they are gifts from God and the Chalkboard piece. And I now have that song stuck in my head as well . Looking forward to your updates!

I think now the entire forum is singing "All You Need is Love" in their heads (and maybe a few are even singing out loud). Thank you for sharing all of your pictures. You've picked some really nice designs while you hone your skills. Personally, I think your skills are pretty well honed; you've done a fantastic job. :D

Lovely projects all of them! I hear you on the French knots. I stitch to relax and French knots are the opposite of relaxation so they are omitted from my projects entirely.

Thank you all so much for the kind words! I do have a little more progress on my WIP, but this week has been a bit wild with decorating and today was Christmas pictures for the kids. (Why do they turn into perfect little angels when a stranger directs them to sit, fold their hands and smile, but when I do it I get glares and grumbles???)

I have a finish!

Image

Will be framed and given to my mother-in-law for Christmas.

In related news, I was given a scroll frame this week and it's my new favorite thing! Two-handed stitching is possibly the best thing ever.

Currently without a WIP because I'm a complete dolt and didn't make working copies for myself.

:whoop: :whoop: :whoop: a fabulous finish Josie and I am sure your MIL will love it.

Now don't be too hard on yourself about not making a working copy - I"ve done that before and I am sure others have forgotten about it too.
