It was meant to go up on 1st November, but that's a Sunday, so here it is a day early - the SAL Materials List! (There's a downloadable version too.)

Signing-up doesn't start until 1st December, but hopefully the materials list gives you something to do until then :-) -- time to think about what fabric, threads and other things you want to use; will you go white-on-white? Brightly coloured? Will you include that little taste of goldwork or would you rather use one of the alternatives? it’s all up to you!

I might be joining in on this one - and if I do, it's all Sally's fault. :-)

Great to hear people are looking forward to this, and thank you to several people who have shared it on their blogs. If you wish, from 1st December you could use this as a side-bar button:

(Should you want to make it into a link to the actual joining button, let me know and I'll send you the code - although many web building programs can probably extract that from the SAL page once the button is live :-)

Since this will be my first ever hardanger, any suggestions as to whether I should stick with white on white, or white on a bold color, or bold color on white? Or really, do the colors even matter? I've got my eye on a pretty purple hardanger.

Debby I doubt it matters really. I used just whatever fabric I had handy without having to dive into the stash pile looking for the white.

The purple sounds lovely - is that the fabric colour or thread colour?

Debby, the SAL can be stitched in any colour (or lack-of-colour) combination you like. White-on-white is the traditional way, but I just love adding colour :-) so I'll be stitching two versions, one using white-with-two-colours on white, and one using white only (not absolutely completely true but I will explain that when the SAL starts) on coloured fabrics (the lovely hand-dyed Hardangers I posted. So it's all up to you, although a bit of colour will make it easier to see the stitches, which might be a help as you're getting used to them.

Looking forward to this and hope I won't get too far behind (as I tend to do  ). I've not done a white on white before and am thinking this is the time to try it. Also I have such a crazy time trying to decide on colors and color combinations, so this way only one decision (except on fabric of course. I have several fabrics that I would like to try. Oh no... then it wouldn't be white on white would it... :tizzy: now as usual.

Karen, there is no time limit to joining (well, I suppose strictly speaking there is - 31st December 2016...) Last time the last person to join signed up in November.
As for fitting things in, as I said last time it's not a competition; everyone works at their own pace. It's not even obligatory to stitch each and every one :-)! It's always difficult to say how long a project will take because a lot depends on your speed of stitching, level of experience, and how much stitching time you get a day, but on the whole none of them should take more than a few evenings.

Carole, you could do them all white on white but on 18ct Afghan, 18ct Davosa, 20ct Bellana, 22ct Hardanger, 22ct Fine Ariosa, 25ct Lugana, 28ct Brittney (with sparkle), 32ct Murano, and of course linens - 20ct Cork, 25ct Dublin, 28ct Cashel, 32ct Belfast (and 36ct Edinburgh and 40ct Newcastle if you're brave), and Floba in your favourite count... there, that's more than 12 already :-)

I plan to start during the year too, as I'm doing the hardanger sampler SAL at the moment and if I have too many things on the go, this happens...... :tizzy: :tizzy: and I give up totally

Great!! As I finish up your 2013 SAL I'll have lots of nice leftover threads for 2016. :)

Yes it is 8.10am Dec 1 here in Queensland so down south of the country is 1 hour ahead which makes NZ now 3 hours ahead of us and their morning almost finished.

Now to wait for Jan I. Must remember to get my son to set me up on a computer attached to a printer so I can download the first one.
