So I was surfing Pinterest the other day and found a pin linked to a listing on an Etsy shop for a cute little panda chart that I thought would be nice to do for my sister. https://www.etsy.com/listing/209316628/ ... -pdf-panda
But then I was checking up on an order on Amazon and this listing popped up that looked very similar to that little panda, but it was a kit with three panda charts. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HU5CA7O/ref ... EWXXMJ3AGT
My gut reaction is that the Etsy one is stolen since I can't find any evidence of the other two pandas in the shop and you can see how they could have moved the butterflies from the other pandas to embellish the third. It looks like the original owner is some company in China that I can't seem to find the name of. I just want to make sure I give my money to the people who actually own the chart!

Good question. I looked at both, and they are virtually identical. My first thought was that the proper cr belongs to the Happy group on Amazon. When I clicked on the seller's name, however, I see Disney items that I know are not legit. Makes me wonder about the integrity of the Amazon seller, too!

Perhaps the Amazon seller and the Etsy seller are one and the same person? It certainly looks like neither of them might be the legitimate owner of the chart. I hope someone on the forum may recognise the design and be able to give you more information.

Yeah, I was wondering about that too. I did a Google image search with both of the images and i get some listings from AliExpress and Ebay that have the three pandas but the descriptive names don't match the Amazon listing.

Barge poll... wouldn't touch with a.
Granted that one panda looks very like another, and these are particularly cute, there are lots of legit panda designs out there, from reputable sellers (although I'd like to think Amazon is policed well?). Or you might construct your own design from motif books out of the library (been known to do that...).

Re: How to find copyright owner?
I clicked on the Etsy link and that product is no longer listed, so I'm guessing they took it down. I looked through the storefront for that Amazon seller, and they have quite a few designs that I recognize from several other designers that have obviously been copied. I sent feedback to Amazon that the seller is selling unlicensed products and products that they don't have rights to. I don't want to speak disparagingly of the Chinese as a whole, but when it comes to crafting patterns, so many sources from China seem to completely disregard copyright laws.

Happens with pens too. Fake pens can be got quite cheaply from China, but a fake Montblanc pen doesn't write in the same way as a real one. Some of the fake fountain pens are very, very good in all ways except writing. There was a time when Chinese fakes of the Parker Rialto actually cost more then the Parker version, but usually they cost $20-30 compared to $400+ for something like a Montblanc.Allyn wrote:..., but when it comes to crafting patterns, so many sources from China seem to completely disregard copyright laws.
I do, however feel that copies rather than fakes, are acceptable. I love the modern Parker Duofold pen (http://www.parkercollector.com/centennial.html) and have two sizes of the Mk2 Black & pearl. They are utterly captivating & gorgeous pens, but they cost an arm & a leg. A Chinese company called 'Kaigelu' have re-engineered the pen while keeping the size & shape the same. The Kaigelu 316 comes in 3 colours (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kaigelu-kangaro ... 1245872511) but is $19 instead of $470. With a replacement nib and an acrylic top to the barrel instead of the Kaigelu's brass one, and you have a pen that looks & feels as gorgeous as the Parker. I use my Parkers and Kaigelu's interchangeably, they are that good.
Regards,
Richard.

Thanks everyone for the feedback! I'm probably gonna put my search on hold while I start a different project and hope something else catches my eye (like Reta's link!).
