cutting fabric

Post by Susie V.R. »

I have a pattern that is 5"x 7"3/4 (70 w x 110 h) stitches what?

I also have fabric Aida 14 count.

How do I measure this on it?

I never had to cut my own fabric.

I feel a little lost.

Thank you very much.

You need to bookmark this: http://yarntree.com/java/xstitchcal.htm" target="_blank" target="_blank I use it all the time! :snowman:

Once you know how much material you need, then get a ruler and some scissors, perhaps a pencil if it makes you feel more competent (or is that just me?), and off you go! Snip Snip

I normally add three inches all around to allow for finishing/framing so a design 5 inches wide I would allow 11 inches total fabric width (5 inches for the design, 3 inches on the left and 3 inches on the right) so the 7 3/4 height I would allow 13 and 3/4 inches total. Some people leave a smaller border but that's up to you.
14cnt is easy to cut though, just measure, snip and follow the holes :) and I second the yarn tree calculator!

What I do before cutting fabric is not just measure, but also grid out the outline of the pattern using some sewing thread. That way you're doubly sure that you're cutting correctly.
