HAED Garden of Delight UPDATED 25/9/14 First Page done
I started my first HAED 2 weeks ago. Garden of Delight by William Morris.
Hopefully when done it will look like this:
Immediately run into problems, as I wasn't happy with 25ct 2 over 1. I tried out a few options and decided in the end on 27ct 2 over 1 tent stitch.
When I started to actually stitch I realised that I choose the probably confetti richest HEAD out there
There is not one 10x10 square with less than 10-15 colours in it, most have 25-35.
I was trying to park but was so busy getting new thread out that I stitched like 80 x in 2h.
Then I went for cross country, miscounted several times and gave parking another chance.
And that's how it look like now, after ~ 30h of work, just 2000 stitches in (only another 183 150 to go, that will take a few years). At least something is actually visible now
I wish they would have some kind of difficulty level on the HAED website, I should have started with something a bit easier for my first HAED.

Wow, what an amazing design and I think it's great that you have had so much patience in starting and stopping until you found the right way for you. And it shows that it was worth it - it's looking beautiful:-)

Beautiful! The detail is already showing and it is stunning! I don't keep track of my stitch count. I would probably consider each little leaf or flower a mini finish. I do tend to enjoy the little accomplishments as they motivate me to keep at it!

I love you didn't give up. Hopefully from here one out it we be a "Delight". I do agree that HAEDs should have a difficulty level on their patterns.

Re: HAED Garden of Delight
Your start looks good. I would have thought 2 over 1 on 27 ct would be too bulky, but it looks like it is working for you. Parking seems slow when you get in an area where a lot of new colors are introduced -- or in your case when you start off and there's a lot of colors to begin with -- but once you get the colors started, you should move along at a decent rate. It's going to be beautiful.

Re: HAED Garden of Delight
I always feel I should like William Morris designs a lot, but can never quite bring myself to like them as much as I want to. This one is a delight, but the tree looks a bit fussy and I'm not sure I could cope with it in my house. It harks back to the style my much adored grandmother had in her house - a style which is too grand for us, our ceilings are too low and there isn't enough dark wood on display!
OK, that comment on William Morris aside, and back to your project.
I agree, it would be useful if HAED could give difficulty scores on their charts. Golden Kite do, though I have never seen where the difficulty rating is explained so it's hard to decide if one could cope with one of their more difficult & attractive projects.
The start you have made is fantastic. Currently you are averaging over 60 stitches an hour in a confetti heavy area. That is a breath taking speed. OK, I am a beginner (well, beginner-ish as I have done approx 150000 stitches in the last 3 years), and cannot average more than 100 per hour on large blocks of a single colour. At the moment with parking in my medium confetti Luis Royo picture, I'm pleased with 40 per hour.
As for the actual stitching you've done... Now where is that 'Going green with envy' emoticon? I need to use it.
Brilliant. Keep up the amazing work.
Richard.

Re: HAED Garden of Delight UPDATED 18.8.14
I put some more hours into my HEAD and that's what it looks like now.
I know most people post a picture when they are done with a new page I think I need to post more often as I need to see that there is some progress. Otherwise I will probably get depressed quickly over it. I hope you don't mind.
So, this week, I new leaf
It's 2 over 1 tent stitch on 27ct. That's why it is not bulky. I wouldn't be able to do a full cross.
Also, It is true that I have now all the initial colours out, Unfortunately due to the pattern, every 2-3 boxes (10x10) almost all colours change. So you just restart getting new colours out and finish the old ones. Therefore it is not getting faster. There will be two red blossoms next, so I have to get all these colours out now.

Re: HAED Garden of Delight UPDATED 18.8.14
Beautiful update. Don't feel that you have to wait to complete a page to post an update. I post updates usually when I change to a different WIP. If I waited for a full page on my HAEDs I'd hardly ever post an update . I do take a picture every night though when I have finished my stitching for that day. It really helps me to see progress that I would otherwise miss. It also is a great way to see figures starting to appear. When I look at my stitched pieces directly I think what I see are stitches, the camera puts it into a better perspective and the stitches become objects or pieces of objects or places or people. Then I compare that day's picture to the previous one and my progress becomes visible. What is important is that you do what you need to, to keep your motivation strong. I, for one, am enjoying your pics of your progress.
