Cleaning a finshed cross stitch+

Post by Cora »

I have a finished project that the white Aida cloth has turned cream, it used to be bright white. Is there anything I can do about this? I'm wondering because I have two more in the series to do, I'm almost done with the second and I compared them yesterday when showing them to my mom. Now I'm worried that the color difference is going to be very visible.

How old is the fabric? I'm not sure I've dealt with white fabric turning that noticeably off-color unless it's in a house with someone who smokes. Have you washed it yet? I'd try washing it before fretting over it too much.

And are you sure it is the same color white? White and antique white are noticeably different when you lay them against each other.

No smokers here.
The project has been washed, it's even in a frame. As to how old it is, I think it's 5-7 years old? I started it then packed it away for a while, then finished it off last year. I not even sure I'm using the same brand of Aida, I doubt it. I remember searching for white 18 count before starting the project though, had a hard time finding it. I wonder if I did now, I might have just used what I had now that I'm thinking about it. :thinks:
I'm not hopeful that anything can be done about it but it never hurts to ask.

maybe you could re matt them so less fabric shows and minimize the difference that way? :thinks: :thinks: :thinks:
