Alternative to hoops?

Post by maeflowers »

I have a few different sized hoops that I use when I am stitching, but the problem is that when I am flipping the fabric back and forth (to check for knots as I go) I get so tired of all the extra fabric getting in the way on my larger project. I am still new so I am not really sure what else to try that would be big enough to hold most of my fabric tight but not too big either... I looked around Michael's and didn't see anything that jumped out at me.

Any suggestions?

I use Q-snap frames they are really great. They don't crease the fabric and they can be mixed and matched to make all sorts of sizes.

Here is the link to the original site. http://www.qsnap.com/needlework_frames.asp" target="_blank

I would love to have Q-snap frame...but I can't find any of that here in our place...so, what I do is to improvised...for large projects..I roll both ends and secure them with clothes pin. It works for me as I can easily flip the fabric back and forth. :)

I have tried clipping them with chip clip things... didn't go over so well. but I'm sure I could improvise with something else.

Thanks for the link! I will definitely check that out. I actually had something like that in a picture in my mind but no name to go with it, and I couldn't find anything like that at the store. So thank you both for your suggestions! :D

That is a great idea. Would also work with a stitched piece that said welcome or guest room. The possibilities are endless.

That's cute! I have also seen kits at Michael's where you stitch the pattern in the hoop (it all fits inside) and then just leave it in there when you're done. Wish I had an example to show you... know what I mean, though?

Oh that is a cute idea. I've seen old hoops at antique shows and shops and though why would you buy those old grubby hoops! but that would be real cute for a craft room decoration. .....oh yes, my husband is going to think I'm more nuts than he already does!

 yeah most people put them in sewing rooms.
I made a few with baby boy fabric left over from some burp cloths..the unstained parts..and gave as a gift to a friend who was expecting..she hung them above the crib
