Beads
This is a bracelet I made last summer, but it was too big. Now I re-made it. Can you guess how it was done?
This is some "leftover" that was made into a necklace.

Re: Beads
Well, it is funny, I read it somewhere on the net. (Internet is to be blamed for everything )
I started with a long beaded piece of the thin rubber band thing you can use for bracelets, about 3-4 meters long. Then I actually knitted the bracelet. That's why it has this strange twisted, untidy look. I like it a lot. The beading took me a whole afternoon, way back last August, the knitting about 10 minutes.

How do you knit it?
Well, I just use very big needles, as Rose said, and stitch very losely, so as not to stretch the rubber band, and sometimes I had to make room for the bigger beads. Very easy.
Only problem was, if any of you wants to try it, that one of the beads is quiet heavy, and it pulls the bracelet down from my wrist. So make sure to choose beads that are not heavy!

Re: Beads
Brilliant! So different. I thought that you'd used a loom to make it then twisted it together. Knitting beads?? Well I never!

Re: Beads
I have to show this to my Mum, she is a keen knitter but I don't think she's ever knitted beads before!! Do you do so many strands at a time and go round and round, or what?
They really are gorgeous Agi.

Re: Beads
Well, I don't know how to explain knitting... It was just one strand of beaded rubber band, I started with 3 stitches (are they called stitches in knitting?), and went on knitting in one row and purling (?) in the other, until I reached the desired length. Then I knotted the ends together - that was the most difficult part. But you can't see it anyway in all the mess

It fascinates me Agi. I have got more what you mean now, thanks.
I just think you made a lovely job of it though.

Re: Beads
What agreat idea! I did read somewhere about those beaded purses you used to get, that all the beads were pre-strung onto the thread in the right order, and then they knitted with the thread picking up a bead in each stitch, and the pattern would appear.
Can you imagine just having strung several thousands of beads and then realising that you got numbers 8 and 9 reversed ?

Re: Beads
I bought a lovely book yesterday at the bead store called lacebeadwork. The pictures are lovely! There is one that I'm just dying to try, a beaded doily in the lace pattern. Here's a link to the pictures from the book.
