Thea Gouverneur Help Please

Post by marykeefe »

Hello,

I have just received Thea Gouverneur's London kit in the mail.

I did not realize no floss numbers are included in her kits..but now I do.

I face three problems with this:

1) card #3 has the bottom 15 slots......empty, no floss! But I do see the symbols on the chart

2) I have two 'extra bunches' of thread, with symbols for them indicated on page 1 of the pattern with absolutely no way of telling which color in the bunch matches to which symbol.

3) As if 1 and 2 aren't enough, the thread seems to be old...at least the two strands I have worked have broken miserably even with gentle use.

I will buy the thread I need, but I need to know what to buy, as well as what symbols the 'extra' bunches match too.

I have also emailed Thea Gouverneur's site, but am not confident of receiving help since I know now she doesn't provide floss numbers.

If anyone is willing to help, I'd really appreciate it.

thanks in advance......
Mary

Is this the London famous buildings? Are you stitching on black or white? Looks fabulous.

No floss numbers isn't entirely unusual in kits, but can be disconcerting at first. It really doesn't matter what the numbers are, only that the symbols are clearly related to a particular colour.

1. Are the empty places in thread card 3 for the extra threads you've found in the hanks?

2. If the hanks are extra thread -- in other words, thread of a colour which is used a lot in the design -- it makes sense (I guess) to put it into a hank. As long as you can match the colour to one already loaded onto a thread card you should be ok. (Daylight will help you.)

3. I'm sorry that you've found the thread fragile. Who has kitted up the package? If it is "Thea Gouverneur", then I'd get in touch and complain. No designer wants their hard work to be ruined by skimping on cheap thread.

Hello, thanks for the prompt reply!

Yes, it is London and with the white Aida background.

I just logged in to say that the it seems the extra hanks actually match symbols with colours --- just extra colours of those that have more than a few threads, so they should be fine.

But the 15 extra holes are troubling; they are empty and marked with symobls and the few I've searched for in the pattern ARE in the pattern.

I do not know who packed up the kit; I ordered it from 123stitch.com, but I assume it came from Thea Gouverneur? Maybe that assumption was incorrect, but I have emailed Thea Gouverneur in any case. I'll also email 123stitch.com today. I have had nothing but good experience with them in any case, but have never had to contact customer service.

On a brighter note..the third colour I started stitching...the thread held up very well! So I guess it'll be a case by case basis for the thread.

thanks.....I so want to be able to complete this. It is an expensive investment, but this will also have a lot of sentimental value for me...lots of memories in London.

Glad to have been able to help!

Now, you just need to stick around, set up a thread in the SAL section, and we'll all pull over the magic bench and cheer you on. We LOVE :camera: !

Are the extra symbols for blended colors perhaps? Maybe they provide the extra space to store them...

Dana beat me to it but I also wondered if the extra symbols were a blended color that you would have to match up for yourself. The pattern directions should give a clue of some sort.

the blended colours idea is a good one, but I've double checked the pattern and ...nope. I guess I just got a package which somoene forgot to complete. In any case, I''ve emailed both the designer and the the supplier. I hope the supplier will send me a replacement card for the incomplete one. I also noticed the first thread of that card is missing too!

thanks for the help and support. I'll snap a picture and post of the itty bitty work so far soon. I always estimate total amount of stitches, but I see this page i'm working from has over 14,000. This will be the largest project I've done, I guess!

thanks again for the nice welcome!

I have one of her kits (the Columbine)...I think I better check mine and see if all is as it should be.

I'm looking forward to updates on your progress on this one; I just wish it had a smoother start for you.

Finished!!!

have a little hole (or two) in the linen to repair...I'm not totally impressed with the linen quality in the kit, but I think The Gouverneur is an amazing designer. I'm amazed at the illusion of depth she creates, especially in St. Paul's.

Took me 5 months to the day to finish. But that was 5 months of obsession, and doing nothing else aside from work. Now it's time to reclaim my life (except I have Thea Gouverneur's Jerusalem sitting waiting for me to start for my son  ).

Thank you for those who helped me with figuring out the colours!
